A tutor can drastically improve a student's confidence in a subject and in their own ability. I think this is really important as this confidence boost will enable them to approach many aspects of their life with less fear, leading to greater opportunities. Throughout my school career I've learned lots about how to study and learn, and I am really…

First of all, communication is definitely vital in order to engage with tutees. Before any information exchange can take place, both parties should be able to relay their thoughts and express their opinions as clear as possible to avoid misconceptions. This skill is essential in the case of tutoring, as most of the knowledge exchange are only…

To instil confidence in themselves as it can take them a long way in terms of motivation and improving their learning by being positive and motivating. Tutors have the unique opportunity to be the person the student gets to ask all their questions to and really get down to what they need help with. I really cater for the student's needs and what…

Inspire them. Anyone can regurgitate textbook material in a different way. But only few can truly educate and inspire their students to become the very best version of themselves. Some of the strengths that I believe are quite necessary for a tutor other than leadership are resilience, and the ability to properly analyse a students learning…

I think that providing a safe and encouraging space for a student is the most important thing for a tutor to do, as well as ignite some passion in them to succeed and be a support system. I believe that I am very approachable and friendly, so that students would be comfortable with asking for help. I also feel as though I can share some of my…

According to me, the most important thing a tutor can do is make sure that the student feels comfortable enough to talk about their doubts and not feel judged. This also helps the student to study better. • Developed my communication skills by talking to different students and their parents. • Demonstrated leadership by motivating and…

To just listen. As counterintuitive as it sounds, listening is more important than teaching. As a tutor one must fully grasp what the student wants and needs and how they best learn. To be able to pick up on non verbal cues if the student is too shy or uncomfortable to ask for help. Everyone learns best in a different way, so a tutor needs to be…

I think a tutor has a lot of power in empowering a student and making them love learning and love the subject. If a tutor can reorient a student's perspective of a certain topic and make the student learn it, it enables the student to engage more with the subject and hopefully increases their passion for learning and education in general which I…

I believe the most important things a tutor can do are to foster confidence, encourage independent thinking, and provide personalised support. A good tutor should identify a student's strengths and areas for improvement, adapt lessons to their needs, and create a positive environment where mistakes are viewed as opportunities to learn. Beyond…

For me, the most important part is to actually avoid just being a tutor. Although the role is of a tutor, with that, I believe there is a responsibility for the tutor to also become a mentor and aid the student in other parts of their life as well. What I enjoy most is seeing that moment when something finally "clicks" for a student, especially when they’ve been struggling with a topic. It’s rewarding to know I’m making a real impact in their learning journey. I care about each student’s progress and want to see them gain confidence not just in their subjects, but in how they…

One of the most important things a tutor can do for a student is to provide them with support for their weakest strengths. I believe that it is crucial that tutors are able to cater to the student's needs. As a tutor, I am able to work well with students. I want to cater to that student's needs. I think it is extremely important to ask what the students' goals are. You need to know the direction they want to go in order to meet their needs. Then take their goal and break it down into achievable pieces that they can accomplish. Lot of students get overwhelmed in math and my goal is to make them…

Aside from teaching the content in an understandable and logical manner, I also think that a tutor should try to inspire a student to become a self-directed and motivated learner. Such a transformation creates the best performing students because they no longer overly rely on the tutelage of others. Rather, they learn to handle a variety of…

I think it's incredibly important to respect the student's individuality. All students learn in different ways so it's important for a tutor to be versatile and very adaptable. Inside RobinaTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 4 student Will practised telling time and worked on counting money and calculating appropriate change using real-life examples.

In Year 8, Will focused on multiplying and dividing negative numbers as well as applying BODMAS rules with negative integers, reviewing these skills through number line diagrams.

Jacob, a Year 11 Maths Methods student, tackled complex trigonometry problems involving the sine and cosine rule and applied these concepts to worded questions in preparation for his internal assessment.

Recent Challenges

A Year 9 student preparing for exams often left working out unclear, making it hard to track mistakes or justify solutions—especially in multi-step algebra and statistics tasks.

"He could improve on the formatting of his working out," a tutor noted after reviewing geometry problems.

In Year 12, another student relied heavily on the formula sheet but struggled to identify which formulas applied to unfamiliar exam questions, leading to slow starts and missed marks.

When homework revision was skipped due to assignments, understanding suffered; key strategies were forgotten during tests, leaving the student unsure where to begin challenging problems.

Recent Achievements

A Robina tutor noticed a big shift in Jacob, a senior student, who previously hesitated with normal inverse calculations on his calculator but now confidently rearranges the standard deviation formula to solve unknowns.

In Year 10, Will used to struggle with showing his working for integer problems, often skipping steps—now he lays out each stage clearly and checks his process.

Meanwhile, during a recent primary session, a younger student who was unsure about quarter past and quarter to times can now match them on both analog and digital clocks without prompting.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Robina Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Silkwood School - Robina Campus.
