The most important I as a tutor can do is to accept that each student has a different way of learning and I should adapt and blend their teaching methods according to the student, there's no one size fits all method for everyone. I completed my schooling and bachelor's in engineering (Computer Science) from India and the education system in India…

Actually caring for the student's academic success will not only make them more likely to succeed, but it will help them go beyond to reaching a scholarly level. My two leading strengths are that I know how to teach to make difficult subjects more easy to understand and I am…

Personally, when I was a student the most important effect of good teachers and tutors was regaining confidence in myself. They showed me that it was okay to fail, how to bounce back, and how to learn from my mistakes. Having a strong education is a wonderful thing, but having been through the whole K-12-Uni-Workforce pipeline by far the best…

1. Students who believe they "are just bad at math" will block themselves from learning. It's important to rebuild that self-belief by pacing lessons to guarantee early, small wins that stack into genuine confidence. 2. Don't just hand over answers or act as a human calculator. The goal is to teach independent problem-solving strategies and…

Being patient. A lot of teachers get frustrated when students do not understand concepts the way they teach them. It is important to teach every student in their own way and be patient with the teaching process. Otherwise a student's confidence and motivation to learn is harmed. A tutor can help improve a student in academic success. In a classroom setting a teacher has to cover a specific amount of content within a particular time period, some students can pick up the content very easily while others may lag behind on the content. A tutor however solves this issue by understanding the student's strengths and weaknesses…

I believe the single most important thing a tutor can do for a student is to provide patient and constant support for them outside of their classroom, and try to clear all their doubts effectively. Inside RockdaleTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 8 student Sasha worked through measurement questions from her textbook, focusing on calculating area and converting between units; she also completed a worksheet for homework support.

For Year 11, Jay tackled practice quiz problems on networks, rates, and ratios directly aligned with the standard mathematics syllabus.

Meanwhile, Year 5 student Ava practiced reading aloud and writing in English before moving on to adding and subtracting fractions as well as being introduced to Roman numerals.

Recent Challenges

A Year 11 student in Mathematics struggled to retain and apply network theory definitions, as noted: "it was just something that needed drilling—he didn't fully grasp the need for repetition." This led to difficulties when tackling unfamiliar problems, with reliance on prompts rather than independent recall.

In Year 9, one student avoided writing down working in area and perimeter tasks, sometimes erasing attempts instead of leaving a visible trail—making it harder to trace logic or learn from mistakes.

Meanwhile, a Year 7 student tended to hyper-focus on irrelevant details during challenging surface area questions, sidestepping the main task and losing confidence mid-way.

Recent Achievements

A tutor in Rockdale noticed a high school student who used to quietly follow instructions now catching calculation errors on his own and even pointing them out before the tutor, showing real engagement during rates and ratios work.

Another high schooler, after previously skipping written steps in maths, has begun writing down her working without reminders and even talks through her process out loud—especially useful when tackling algebraic questions she once found tricky.

Meanwhile, a Year 5 student who struggled with mixed numerals picked up the concept quickly this week and chose to attempt extra practice questions independently before asking for help.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Bayside Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like St Mary and St Mina's Coptic Orthodox College, Rockdale campus.
