Helping them to develop their own learning style, or styles, to perform in a variety of circumstances is one of the most critical things a tutor can impart on a student. Examinations and content will never be delivered in the exact same way, so providing students with the means to navigate the ambiguities of examination and focus purely on the…

To be supportive and to help them to understand that being confused or not understanding something straight away is an essential part of the learning experience. I have a deep understanding of maths so I can often explain topics in multiple ways, which is useful if a particular explanation doesn't resonate with the student, I can always try to…

The most important thing a tutor can do is help the student find their particular learning style, study habits and exam technique. There are multiple ways to view the same problem, and each person finds some easier to understand than others. The best thing a tutor can do is provide as many different ways of understanding and interpreting the…

The most important things a tutor can do for a student are to provide clear explanations, foster confidence, and encourage independent thinking. A tutor should break down difficult concepts in a way that matches the student's learning style while also guiding them to think critically rather than just memorizing answers. Patience and encouragement…

I consider encouragement and clarity to be the most important things a tutor can do for a student. Encouraging the students to learn, to do well, and to be confident is the first step for them to gain interest and the willingness to improve. It is also very important to deliver clear explanation to the students so that they could progress more…

Keeping them engaged and passionate to learn and continue thrive for knowledge. This I believe is key to success. We are all capable of learning if we have the right mindset and a fostering environment. I am a good teacher, communicator and able to simplify and think outside the box. My main strength apart from the technical is the ability to keep…

A tutor should maintain a comfortable yet professional relationship with the students, so that they can comfortably express their opinions/questions whenever they have the need to. Also, to be able to share my experiences with the students to help them make the right choices for their future study endeavour. My strength as a tutor would definitely…

Make him/her feel able to understand and break through the barrier that academic knowledge oftentimes represents to young people. Being able to penetrate a subject in a personal way that allows the student to feel comfortable learning in his own terms. I am patient and resourceful, always trying to find the way in which each individual student…

Work to build up the student's confidence. This can be done by teaching them not just how to study for a test, but how to understand the test's content. It is crucial that a student's problem solving and critical thinking skills be developed, as this enables them to approach new or harder concepts with the assurance that they have the skills to…

I consider patience to be the most important virtue in a tutor, setting small checkpoints between certain topics is a good strategy. A tutor should always pause and ask if the student has any questions or doubts about the concept. A tutor should make the student feel comfortable around them and they should not hesitate to ask any questions - no…

Every student has a different understanding ability so being patient and explaining the task clearly to the student is very important. I believe I can understand each student's weakness and strength, understanding their psychology and…

The most important thing a tutor can do for a student is to engage in thorough discussions about their thought processes, providing real-time feedback. This approach, which I valued greatly during my own tutoring experience in Year 12, helps students refine their problem-solving skills and deepen their understanding. A key strength of mine as a…

The most vital thing for a tutor is to assess the level of understanding of the student. Students learn in different ways (some learn best with visual explanations, some learn by analogy, or by pnemonic devices etc) and it is important to understand the best approach for a specific student. By applying the most appropriate teaching techniques for…

I think that communication and being on the same page (figuratively) as your student as very important. Younger people can often be hesitant to admit that they don't know something, so it is important to break down any barriers and understand the students needs. I am determined, patient, mature and motivated. I can try different methods of…

Teach in an understandable, motivating, and enjoyable way. Crucial factors for efficient learning (things as relibaility, punctuality and so on) are all obvious and mandatory to me. Finally, every student has his / her own ways of learning / understanding things, and it is clearly the job of the tutor to find out the most efficient one, to let the…

I think it is most important for a tutor to make the learning experience enjoyable for a student, because in my experience even the worst subject with the most innane course material can be made much better with a tutor that you actually like, that likes the subject, and presents it clearly. I believe a tutor can prepare interactive lectures, so that students can participate in the lectures. That technique is very helpful to get the maximum attention of the students. Tutor is a guidance and the support. A right tutor can shape the future of the student. As the Chinese proverb goes: "Give a man a fish and he will eat for a day; teach a man to fish and he will eat for lifetime". Hence I would say tutor plays a very important role in shaping the education and career of the student by teaching him/her the right…

Inside Roseville ChaseTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 6 student James worked on money calculations and fractions, as well as strengthening his skills with multiplication and division using everyday examples.

In Year 8, Trai practised plotting linear equations and revising key algebraic techniques, also converting between fractions, decimals, and percentages to support his exam preparation.

For Year 9, Aja focused on trigonometry problems including angles of depression and elevation, alongside factorising quadratic expressions through targeted practice questions.

Recent Challenges

In Year 9 algebra, a student did not write down his working, leading to frequent errors that were hard to trace and correct.

During a Year 12 assignment, another student delayed drafting Parts A and B, making it difficult to start later sections on time.

In Year 6, incomplete homework meant less opportunity to review rounding decimals before the next lesson.

One Year 11 student only revised familiar surd questions and avoided unfamiliar formats; this limited exposure left her struggling with variety in tests.

After missing steps in a trigonometry proof (Year 10), confidence dipped noticeably during timed practice.

Recent Achievements

In Year 4, James was initially unsure about placing fractions on a number line, but by the end of the session he confidently ordered fractions like 1/4 and 1/3 without prompting.

For a high school student, Aja had struggled with bearings questions before her test; after targeted practice last week, she managed to answer those problems accurately during her assessment.

Another older student began hesitating to solve for x independently, but finished the lesson able to perform each step on his own for the first time.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Castle Cove Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Castle Cove Public School.
