The most important thing a tutor can do for a student is being patient. Every student is unique and has his/her specific needs in terms of how to deliver a specific content. Patience is the most important thing that is needed, in my opinion, in order to clearly understand a particular student's needs and to craft a lecture that is successfully…

The tutor can prepare so that they can be ready to teach by understanding required concepts first and bringing every necessary resource to each session. I can easily tell if a student really understands a concept properly. If a student doesn't, then I know there's need to correct that by providing them with fundamental…

I think the most important things a tutor can do for a student is provide them the information which is accurate, and present it in a manner that they will love learning and explore their abilities. A teacher plays a role of a mentor or professional parent in student's life and can shape their career by providing valuable information in…

I believe that a good tutor should have credentials, good grades, of course, a Master's degree, and experience in the field. But I do not feel that this is enough. ability to make a strong communication and convey the idea are other factors of successful tutor. My major strength is my experience. Because I've been teaching so long I've taught…

Be very accessible - the student should feel comfortable in asking the tutor questions. Communication - the tutor should be able to explain and teach each student according to their level of learning. Knowledge - the tutor must have the required knowledge and resources that the student requires. My strength would be my ability to adjust and…

Not to do the work for the student. I think that a tutor should be prepared as well as eager for ever lesson and flexible to adjust to the needs of their student. A tutor's enthusiasm should encourage their student. Tutors should be imaginative and creative in order to help their student understand as well as make sure that they will remember the…

Being friendly and adapting their teaching speed to the pace of the student. not having one universal teaching style, but altering it is how you keep the student interested and make it easier for them to grasp the concept. For example, using sports examples to explain a physics concept to a high school athlete will keep them engaged longer and add…

This has not only allowed me to excel in my studies but has also filled my life with joy and wonder at the many things there are to learn and understand. This was given to me by my teachers and parents, and I think this is the best gift a teacher of any kind can give to a student. I have a solid…

Be an attentive listener then explain the concept in the way your student will best understand it. It is imperative to first observe where your student's thought process is going wrong and subsequently resolve your student's doubts by communicating effectively and calmly. Patience, most tutors give up after their students don't follow along with…

A tutor can make a student love the subject he/she hates. The most important thing for a tutor is to understand the student, his/her interests, aptitude, and what he/she is inclined towards. If you have a basic idea of the student mindset you can develop techniques to make them understand the subject in a way they don't find it hard. Gamification…

I consider patience to be the most important virtue in a tutor, setting small checkpoints between certain topics is a good strategy. A tutor should always pause and ask if the student has any questions or doubts about the concept. A tutor should make the student feel comfortable around them and they should not hesitate to ask any questions - no…

The most important things a tutor can do is to bring the best out of a student. Aside from assisting the problems students might have in schools, it is equally important for a tutor to act as a role model through showing great examples. On top of that, a tutor should also be empathetic in order to know the student's strengths and weaknesses so…

One of the most important things a tutor can do for a student is to be a reliable source of guidance and support. A great tutor also adapts to the student’s needs, making lessons engaging and effective. Beyond…

I think the most important thing a tutor can offer to a younger student is their experience, similar to that of a mentor. Beyond course content, tutors can draw from their study, career and life experiences to help the student navigate their path. Inside Rushcutters BayTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 5 student Taiki focused on reading comprehension by tackling a story called 'The Dragon,' practising phonics for unfamiliar words, and then writing sentences using new vocabulary.

In Year 9, Maddison worked through trigonometry problems including finding angles and sides in right-angled triangles as well as bearings, using both classwork and extension exercises.

Meanwhile, Year 10 student Olivia concentrated on factorising quadratic expressions and reviewed key concepts in perimeter and area during maths homework support.

Recent Challenges

A Year 8 student showed ongoing reluctance to write out working for maths problems, especially with decimals and fractions—he tried to solve everything in his head, which led to missed steps and confusion when reviewing answers.

In Year 11, messy or incomplete pen-and-paper notes during algebraic manipulation made it difficult to track errors or revise later.

Another senior student preparing for exams struggled with organizing her revision, sometimes relying on formula recall without consistently checking each step; this resulted in simple but costly mistakes on quizzes.

For a Year 3 learner, avoiding reading comprehension tasks too quickly meant missing key points, affecting confidence after setbacks.

Recent Achievements

One Rushcutters Bay tutor noticed that a Year 10 student, previously hesitant to tackle unfamiliar maths problems, now brings forward her own questions from class and has just scored 98% on her latest assignment after independently organising data into stem and leaf plots.

A high schooler who used to quietly struggle with bearings and probability recently took the initiative to jot down specific topics she wanted help with before the lesson, then worked through those sections confidently.

Meanwhile, a younger student has shifted from skipping tricky division questions to asking for step-by-step explanations until he can solve them accurately himself.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Kings Cross Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Sydney Grammar School - Edgecliff Preparatory School.
