The most important thing a tutor can do for a student is to make them realise their flaws. A lot of students during their high school assessments get carried away and disheartened by the bad marks they receive. This blinds students of the areas in which they need to improve. Thus by analysing an individual students' strengths and weaknesses,…

Knowing how they study, how they respond, and how they catch things is the most. Some students may have problems with understanding the basics while others may not feel good doing all the rush work. Some may learn just through an informal conversation while some may need additional input variables to learn just a single concept. So, a tutor's…

Keep giving students motivation to learn and advise them what they could do in the future with the knowledge they are learning at the moment. It is important that a…

Ironing out a student's weak areas is important as I believe it is important to make students confident in their work. Furthermore, explaining things in a way that makes students understand concepts better such as using analogies is important as the way things are typically taught might be one of the reasons it is difficult to understand concepts.…

Tutors can provide a one-on-one situation where they're able to realise the students weaknesses and target those areas. They can also be someone else for the students to ask questions where they may be too shy or unable to during a large classroom environment. Inside SandringhamTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 9 student covered solving for missing values in trigonometric functions (sine, cosine, tangent) and tackled real-world word problems involving trigonometry.

In Year 11 Chemistry, work focused on balancing chemical equations and calculating limiting reagents and unknown moles.

Meanwhile, a Year 12 student reviewed acids and bases with an emphasis on titrations, using step-by-step practice to reinforce concepts.

Recent Challenges

A recurring challenge in Year 10–11 mathematics has been incomplete revision between sessions; as one tutor put it, "I end up having to spend the next week covering what I went through the previous week." This cycle delays progress and leaves less time for new material before exams.

In Year 7 algebra, skipping written steps—especially with cross multiplication—meant errors crept in but weren't visible for correction.

For a Year 3 English task, homework was often misplaced or left unfinished, with work scattered across loose pages instead of kept in the provided booklet, making review and improvement harder.

Recent Achievements

One Sandringham tutor noticed a Year 11 student who previously struggled to stay focused now working through chemistry calculations—like titration and molar mass—on her own, even explaining her steps aloud without prompting.

A Year 8 boy, who used to rush homework with errors, surprised his tutor by redoing a NAPLAN quiz carefully and getting it all correct after missing questions the week before.

Meanwhile, in Year 3, Max—who often hesitated with spelling tests—spelled out all ten "-ai" and "-ay" words correctly for the first time, finishing the list independently and putting schoolwork first.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Sans Souci Branch Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like The Scots College, Brighton Preparatory School.
