Biology Tutor Woody Point, QLD
It all comes back to confidence for me, when a student is confident in a subject again it can then translate into other areas of academia and even life. I firmly believe all students are capable of extraordinary feats and the support I show for my students allows for them to start believing that as well. My principal strength in tutoring is my…

There are many things I consider that are important when it comes to tutoring such as active listening, clear communication and patience. But personally, the most important to me is helping build the child's confidence about the subject or topic they are struggling with. As a university student myself, I understand how hard it is to remain…

I think the most important thing for a biology tutor is to understand what their student is struggling with and make a plan to deal with the issue at hand. This requires building a connection with students and understanding how they might learn a specific topic. All students are unique and learn differently than other students, which requires the…

The role of a biology tutor is to provide the appropriate resources and teaching strategies based on the student's learning ability. Additionally, a tutor should display compassion, empathy and patience especially when students encounter topics that they find difficult. It is the duty of the tutor to ensure the student can be assisted in a safe…

Getting started was very easy . A tutor was assigned to us very quickly and contacted us quickly and our first session happened a few days later. My son and the tutor are getting along well and so far things seem to be going well and my son is getting the help he needs.

Inside ScarboroughTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 11 student Libby worked on her PSMT, using algebraic modelling and linear relationships to design a scaled logo plotted on a graph.

Year 10 Tom covered factorising and expanding algebraic expressions, then practised plotting points and finding gradients and intercepts on the Cartesian plane.

Meanwhile, Year 7 Jalen focused on creating and solving algebraic expressions from word problems, as well as practising substitution—including more challenging questions with powers and square roots.

Recent Challenges

A Year 10 student, when differentiating, often made small sign errors—talking out loud helped him catch some mistakes, but missing steps in working hid others.

For a Year 11 calculus topic, uncertainty about the chain rule led to hesitancy; extra practice between sessions could help bridge these gaps.

Meanwhile, a Year 7 student showed over-reliance on her calculator and struggled with rounding and significant figures—limiting her confidence for non-calculator tests.

In primary (Year 3), one student repeatedly forgot homework and struggled to bring required materials, leading to lost time re-covering basics instead of moving forward.

Recent Achievements

One Scarborough tutor noticed a Year 9 student who used to hesitate with indices now working through them confidently after targeted practice—she even tackled circle area and circumference problems on her own by lesson's end.

Another win came from a high schooler in Year 11, who at first stumbled with the product and quotient rules but now completes differentiation tasks without help, remembering previous methods and asking for extra challenges.

In primary, Melody, once shy and reluctant to speak up, is now volunteering answers aloud—even when unsure—and recently finished her math homework early each night before leaving her book at school.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Redcliffe Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Southern Cross Catholic College.
