Help them improve their grade so they can reach their goals. I used to be bad at mathematics to begin with so I can predict where a student might have problems and prepare a way to help them beforehand. I am also a people person thus I am quite comfortable interacting in one on one…

Biology Tutor Morphettville, SA
A tutor should motivate students to want to achieve their best and provide them with opportunities and knowledge on how they can achieve this. A tutor should create a supportive learning environment where the student can thrive and feels comfortable to ask questions. A tutor should teach their student/s how to be a self-directed learner, as this…

Help them understand things in their way and find or make a method their own. A tutor can't impose a method on anyone, but has to help them learn in a method suited just for the individal. I am extremely patient and am good at explaining a concept in multiple…

I believe it is really important that a tutor is able to communicate well, encourage and understand the primary needs of their students. The tutor should then be able to think of many different and useful strategies to help the student learn. It is very important the tutor brings a sense of fun to the lesson, to urge the student to want to learn…

A high level of communication between the tutor and the student is vital as this allows a positive learning environment to be created, where students feel comfortable asking questions to attain the extra support they require. Tutors must be supportive and provide constant encouragement in order to motivate the student to achieve their best. A…

The most important thing that a tutor can do for a student is to be able to fix crucial gaps in a student's knowledge. And consequently, be able to assist the student to achieve full potential in school results. Being patient and understanding that if a student doesn't understand the subject after a few times practicing it, we can always try…

The personalisation of learning is the most important thing I consider a tutor can do for their student. There is no one-size-fits-all study skills as every students have different interests and strengths. Therefore, I believe it is important to truly incorporate their interests and maximise their strengths in tutoring, for the students to build…

A tutor who is helpful, caring, empathetic, and hardworking. A tutor would want a student to get the highest possible grade. A tutor should make learning fun and interesting by focusing on both the student's strengths and weaknesses in order to best approach the subject. A tutor should be able to consider a student's interests and reflect them in…

Impart sound knowledge and learning skills to allow students to continue with these skills without a tutor Strengths I feel I am able to really get to know each of my students as an individual. I try to get a feel for what strategies work with each one. They do not all learn the same and what works for one may not for another. I always try to be…

The most important thing is to help the student understand the work better so they feel confident and are better off for it. I think it’s also important to invoke a love for maths or any subject to inspire students to continue learning and a passion for it. My strength is I am very patient and willing to try different methods to find a way that…

Inside Seacombe HeightsTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 10 student Thomas worked through applying first and second derivatives to graph analysis and interpreting turning points, using chain, product, and quotient rules in differentiation.

For Year 11, Emily focused on physics concepts such as momentum vectors and conservation of momentum, practicing calculations with real-life scenarios.

Meanwhile, Year 12 student Michael revised exponential and logarithmic differentiation techniques and practiced extended calculus applications involving intervals of increase or decrease for advanced functions.

Recent Challenges

A Year 9 student often forgot to bring a calculator, making it hard to keep up during lessons and slowing down progress on algebra problems.

In senior maths, one student "relied heavily on formula sheets," which meant he struggled to solve new application questions without prompts.

A Year 10's messy written work in trigonometric differentiation made errors harder to spot; as noted, "he skipped showing steps in algebra, which hid sign errors."

Meanwhile, a primary student lost focus during subtraction practice, drifting off-task when tasks felt repetitive or too easy—leading to gaps that later reappeared in test revision.

Recent Achievements

One Seacombe Heights tutor noticed Thomas, a Year 12 student, making a real shift in his approach to calculus—he now checks back over his work for errors and confidently applies the chain, product, and quotient rules without prompts, a big step from needing reminders just weeks ago.

In Year 10, Stephen has started tackling longer percentage word problems on his own after initially freezing up when faced with multi-step questions; now he recognises what to do even with trickier contexts.

Meanwhile, Fred in Year 3 completed his homework independently for the first time, only asking for help when genuinely stuck.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Cultural Centre Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Seaview High School.
