Local Reviews

Lisa, Seddon

Inside SeddonTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 5 student Mia focused on converting denominators to add and subtract fractions, as well as simplifying fractions for clarity.

In Year 9, Ethan practiced solving algebraic equations for x and reviewed strategies for factorising quadratic equations.

Meanwhile, Year 10 student Ruby worked through the distributive law of surds in algebra and reinforced her understanding by graphing linear lines using different methods.

Recent Challenges

Homework completion was a barrier for one Year 8 student—"not attempted," the note read, which limited progress with dividing and multiplying by factors of ten.

In Year 9 algebra sessions, working out was sometimes kept in students' heads rather than on paper, so key sign errors or steps were missed ("pen to paper" needed).

A senior student brought neither book nor notes to revision, making it harder to practice manipulating equations and use feedback.

One Year 11 learner hesitated to check work after each step; small mistakes went unnoticed until the end, meaning extra time spent fixing avoidable errors.

Recent Achievements

A Seddon tutor noticed that one Year 11 student, after initially struggling with understanding the inflation formula and the difference between purchasing power and current value, began breaking down complex questions independently and set up a personal study log to track his progress—a big shift from needing step-by-step direction.

Another high school student who previously hesitated to ask for help now initiates discussions about challenging algebraic problems and has started keeping organised notes in a dedicated rules book.

Meanwhile, a Year 5 student who often guessed spelling is now confidently rewriting definitions and reading them aloud after targeted literacy practice during sessions.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Footscray Mechanics' Institute Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Footscray High School - Pilgrim Campus.
