As a tutor, it's very important to understand the pace at which a student learns and to accustom themselves by providing a safe and informative learning space for the student. I'm very patient and I don't mind repeating a lesson and pacing myself. I'd like to think that I get along fairly well with the youth I am punctual and I have an eye for…

I think the most important things I can do for a student revolve around mentorship. Being a tutor is not just about imparting information and tips to the student. It is recognising the student as a whole, looking after their mental wellbeing, and ensuring that what they're learning is being tailored to them, rather than a cookie-cut approach. A…

One of the most important thing to do is to understand what the student needs. Through careful evaluation a tutor should identify the student's weakness and put more focus on that area. Another important thing is to always address their questions. Sometimes my students asked me questions which I did not know the answer to, so I looked up on the…

For younger students especially, its important to build their confidence and help them develop good learning habits early on. Listening to a student is the most important thing a tutor can do. It allows you to prepare better for future sessions and meet the needs of the students. It also helps you modify your teaching approach to keep the students engaged in the class. I believe my approach to teaching is efficient as I break down concepts to the basics and use multiple…

Personally, I believe in three things a good tutor can do for a student. First, Can Encourage every child understanding their speciality and treating them differently. The prevailing inherited difference in them is a mean to stimulus the school going students and that can be done by the tutor. Second, Can Motivate on every walk to the student…

It is important for a tutor to understand their students' learning styles, strengths, and weaknesses and adapt each lesson accordingly to specific students. With this, students are more likely to understand what they are trying to learn. As they continue to solidify their knowledge through tutoring, their confidence will boost and hopefully,…

I think the most important thing a tutor can do is make a student feel understood and supported, not judged. Learning can be really challenging, especially when you’re already dealing with pressure, self doubt, or even language barriers. In the end, what matters most is that a tutor helps a student find confidence in their own ability to learn…

A tutor must be invested in a student's learning in order for the teaching and tutoring to be effective and positive for the student's experience. A tutor can approach learning often in different ways that are addressed in the classroom, meaning the student may find a learning style or approach that suits them better and one that they can apply…

The most vital job of a a tutor is to provide enough confidence to the students so that They can have believe in themselves to solve any numerical problems or to understand any other subjects. I think tutor should do everything for his or her students because after the parents only teacher is one person who can very closed for the student. Always tell them not to be scared to ask. I often realize students are uncomfortbale to ask when they need help. It is important to ask for help and not to be embarassed about it because developing and making it better is good rather than silent. In studying English specifically, it is good to ask them to find something relate to the language…

Inside South PerthTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 4 student Riley worked through place value to support multiplication, then practiced short division using worded problems for real-world context.

In Year 8, Hannah focused on mean, median, mode, and range calculations along with large addition and subtraction tasks from the Year 8 syllabus.

For Year 9, Jay tackled trigonometry concepts including SOHCAHTOA as well as working with gradients and y-intercepts by linking tables to graphs during algebraic exercises.

Recent Challenges

In Year 9 English, "written expression" stood out as a recurring challenge—one student's ideas were strong when spoken but "just needed to write it down," especially in creative writing where grammar and holistic articulation held them back.

Meanwhile, a Year 11 Maths lesson revealed over-reliance on familiar problems: notes were used well for standard tasks, but applying them to unfamiliar calculator questions was avoided.

A Year 7 student working on fractions and percentages hesitated to trust their own working and often looked for patterns instead of understanding concepts. This sometimes left mistakes hidden until revision sessions.

Recent Achievements

One South Perth tutor recently noticed a big change in a Year 10 student who had struggled to link fractions, decimals, and percentages—after several sessions, she could explain their interconnections on her own and used new strategies without prompting.

In Year 12, John moved from being hesitant about statistics to independently solving mode, median, range, and mean problems; he now asks for clarification rather than leaving answers blank.

Meanwhile, Riley in Year 5 went from guessing short division answers to working through problems fluently with just occasional place value hints. Last week he finished his worksheet without errors.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as South Perth Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Wesley College.
