As a matter of strategy, what I will do is to meet them where they are academically, then prepare a plan and implement it to be able to meet our goal(s). I have the ability to relate with young kids well. Raising three…

For me, the important thing that I can do for my students is helping them to build confidence. I guess most students tend to hire tutors not because they are not good at the subject somehow, but because they lack confidence and interest in it. Therefore, what I can do is to activate their interests and build up confidence in my way. There are…

In my opinion, I think that it is important to understand every student is different and has their way of learning. It is important for a tutor to identify and tailor a plan for each student so that they are learning efficiently. For example, as I am a visual and auditory learner, I learn most efficiently by watching lectures and videos and less…

The most important things are making sure the student stays focused, this can breed into their own self study by helping to build healthy habits and training themselves to focus for extended periods of time. a tutor first needs to understand the capability of the student considering all the strengths and weakness and work on it. Only just transforming knowledge will not help the child grow but instead develop a liking for that particular subject will make that child understand it more easily. Temporary teaching does't work in this teaching field.…

The important thing is to develop the student's ability to independently study. It is like that proverb 'Give a man a fish, and you feed him for a day. Inside South PlymptonTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 4 student Mavis explored fraction addition and subtraction using hands-on materials, and completed a reading comprehension about anglerfish based on her interests.

In Year 10, Una revised ecosystem concepts such as trophic levels and species interactions through flashcards and practice tests, also focusing on variables and scientific accuracy for an upcoming practical skills assessment.

For Year 11, Andrea prepared for her biology exam by reviewing DNA transcription/translation and cell biology topics, then practiced mock short-answer questions using mind maps to strengthen understanding.

Recent Challenges

A Year 8 student left her maths booklet at home, making it hard to follow up on previous work and limiting practice during the session.

In Year 10 Biology, a learner submitted an unfinished report—the conclusion and discussion were missing at the time of review.

One Year 11 student hesitated to answer questions when unsure, leaving several blank rather than attempting an educated guess: "It would have been good to put an answer in despite not being sure."

For a Year 12 Chemistry task, confusion over technical terms led to vague explanations instead of precise definitions, especially under test conditions.

Recent Achievements

A South Plympton tutor recently noticed a real shift with one Year 10 student who, after weeks of struggling to define scientific terms, was suddenly able to recall and use words accurately like "vestigial" and "homologous structures"—something she couldn't do two weeks earlier.

In a Year 7 maths session, another student surprised herself by quickly multiplying by 10 without hesitation and dividing even tens easily, when this had been a stumbling block before.

Meanwhile, a primary student began reading comprehension passages aloud voluntarily for the first time, asking about tricky words instead of skipping them.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Park Holme Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Emmaus Christian College.
