A good tutor can raise interest of the student. Once the student feel interested in the subject, then he/she will be keen on learning new things. In addition, tutoring is more than teaching, and students are more engaged and proactive. I have strong interest in maths and I have my degree in commerce, this would be helpful for students who wanna…

The most important thing that a tutor can teach his student is 'how to learn'. You can give a man a fish and feed him for a day but when you teach the man how to fish you can feed him for a lifetime and that is the impact I would like to have on the student. Patience is inherent to my personality and I find that this is the single most valuable…

I think the most important thing for a tutor to do is to continue to provide ongoing support for its student. The tutor needs to help the student through their educational journey by providing extensive resources for their students in order for them to grow to become successful students. I am quite flexible with my time which allows me to help my…

Creating an environment in which the student is able to confidently attempt their own strategy to solve problems even if it is incorrect. Also teaching the student to build resilience - to bounce back from frustration and failure. I am a patient and disciplined person who willingly works hard and connects with the person I am tutoring. As the saying goes, teach a man to fish and he will be able to support himself for a lifetime. A tutor’s most important role is to be able to do that for a student’s learning while also encouraging them to have fun and instill a sense of curiosity that will extend their learning to beyond the classroom. My belief in tutoring is that I always…

Having freshly graduated from highschool, I understand the importance of wanting the "perfect" tutor. I believe that a tutor must be confident and patient enough to explain academic concepts from scratch and contribute to the learning confidence of a student. It's also important to be a mentor and make students feel valued. I remember feeling…

As a tutor it is imminent I can personalise the learning to the students, as they have varying areas of strength and weakness and I should be able to adapt different learning approaches for each student. Hence I should teach to the students strengths and minimise their weaknesses. I believe my strengths as a tutor are my ability to understand…

The most important thing a tutor can do for a student is to unlock their potential. It’s not just about explaining concepts—it’s about making the student believe they can conquer anything. A tutor should inspire confidence, turning frustration into progress, and showing students they’re capable of more than they think. It’s about being…

The most important thing a tutor can do is support students in a way that builds their confidence, not makes them feel like they’re lacking. As a tutor it is vital that they are encouraging and always find solutions to help a student who may find a certain aspects of a subject difficult or they may not like. The most important thing tutor a tutor can do is to teach students to solve problems independently. Inside South TurramurraTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 7 student Sam worked through probability, focusing on basic chance experiments and interpreting results from tables.

In Year 10, Grace practised trigonometric graph sketching and applied the binomial theorem to expansion problems using structured examples.

For Year 12, Daniel revised calculus applications such as differentiation of exponentials and tackled financial maths questions involving compound interest, reviewing past paper questions for exam preparation.

Recent Challenges

Several process habits stood out across year levels.

In Year 11 calculus, one student often left revision exercises incomplete and didn't revisit assigned practice, making it hard to retain differentiation methods—"he is also not going back and doing revision exercises that are assigned to him."

Another, working on advanced algebra in Year 10, regularly struggled to start multi-step problems without hints, which slowed progress on unfamiliar application questions.

During a Year 12 statistics lesson, skipping written steps in probability led to errors with CDF and PDF relationships; this meant extra time was spent retracing calculations instead of tackling new material.

Recent Achievements

A tutor in South Turramurra noticed that one Year 12 student, after previously hesitating to ask for clarification, now regularly speaks up when stuck on tricky calculus questions and seeks feedback to double-check his approach.

Another high schooler has shifted from needing step-by-step guidance in coordinate geometry to tackling most problems independently and even choosing harder challenge questions during lessons.

Meanwhile, a younger student recently began outlining proofs unaided in class—something he'd struggled with just a week before—and completed the session by successfully presenting his reasoning without prompts.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Turramurra Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Turramurra Public School.
