I believe my most important role as a tutor is provide a supportive environment in a way that it is open to a variety of personalities and ways of thinking. It is only if the student is comfortable that the student and tutor can work cooperatively which will allow for the student to learn. The tutor should also attempt to understand the student.…

I think the most important thing as a tutor you need to be honest, be flexible, be patient, be a good listener, teach the student how to learn. I believe tutors fill a different role than teachers and parents, and that puts them in a unique position to support students. Personal relationships are foundational to student success -- the more…

A tutor is a guide to show the right path. Students might stumble a lot, but tutor should hold him up, stand by him and show the right direction. Never giving up on a student, looking for opportunities to advance their skill is what a tutor should always do. I try to explain things from the student's perspective. For example, a gamer might…

A tutor can help improve a student in academic success. In a classroom setting a teacher has to cover a specific amount of content within a particular time period, some students can pick up the content very easily while others may lag behind on the content. A tutor however solves this issue by understanding the student's strengths and weaknesses…

It is essential that the student feels comfortable learning, and as a tutor I think it is our job to achieve this. Not only should the student feel relaxed while in class, they should start to gain interest in what they are learning. Assist, and them let them do it. Give the tools, but let them build. At first when solving a problem or explaining a concept, the person hearing for the first time may find it hard to understand. However, for most STEM courses, consistency is the key. If the student learn this and understand that by doing it over and over, they will be able to do…

I think the most important thing that a tutor can do for a student is to have them gain confidence with themselves in terms of excelling in school. Local Reviews

The whole process of finding a tutor has been so simple, all I had to do was make the initial enquiry. We had our tutor within 24hours! Freddy is so lovely and while it is early days we can see the confidence growing in our son. We highly recommend this service...in fact I already have :)

Inside StanmoreTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 9 Avi worked on trigonometry, focusing on sine, cosine, and tangent rules with targeted practice questions, as well as reviewing surds for clarity.

Year 10 Luke reviewed past exam papers to address topics he found challenging and discussed areas of confusion across the syllabus in detail.

In Year 11, Avi practiced monic and non-monic quadratic factorisation and revisited line equations by working through sample test problems.

Recent Challenges

For a Year 8 student, missing school and tutorial homework led to gaps in understanding algebra and number patterns—"she wasn't understanding the content from school and there was missing school homework I noticed."

In Chemistry (Year 11), failing to memorise polyatomic ions meant techniques shown previously were not recognised in later exam questions, making revision less effective.

A Year 9 student's over-complicated diagram annotations in Science resulted in missed marks for terminology and logical structure.

Meanwhile, a Year 5 learner struggled with two-digit multiplication because times tables weren't automatic; this slowed progress on new skills.

Recent Achievements

A Stanmore tutor noticed one high school student who had previously hesitated to ask questions now actively seeking clarification during economics essay planning, leading him to correctly use diagrams in new scenarios without prompting.

Another student, after initially struggling with structuring written responses, has begun writing PEEL paragraphs independently and completed several on his own with improved clarity.

Meanwhile, a Year 6 learner who once guessed at answers now takes time to double-check her calculations for area and volume before responding—she even asked for more challenging shapes last session.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Stanmore Branch Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Stanmore Public School.
