I believe that some of the most important things I consider for a student include: Providing personalized attention: One of the main advantages of tutoring is that it allows for one-on-one interaction between the tutor and the student. A great tutor takes advantage of this and tailors their approach to meet the individual needs of each…

The most important thing to me is to guide a student on how to approach problems to have the best chance of solving it, and hence boost self confidence to always try I think I am good at painting a very good image of a problem, making it easier to understand and relate with. I also tell good stories to make a problem become interesting, and hence…

Understanding the needs of every individual student and making sure that he/she can help the student in every way possible. Gaining the students trust and making them comfortable around you so that they do not hesitate to ask you anything is important as well. Be someone a student feels comfortable with so they can ask any questions they need without feeling judged. It is also important that the tutor can, of course, answer questions, as well as provide strategies to help the student become a more independent learner in the future. I find it easy to breakdown a concept and explain each step of the way.…

To me, one of the most important thing a tutor can do for a student is to give the student confidence. When a student gains confidence that they can do it, they will be more willing to put effort and also do better in their examinations. I would say my strength as a tutor is to be able to get into the studnets's level and explain to them in a way…

I believe the most important things a tutor can do are to explan or simply the difficult concepts in a manner the student understands, and to build their confidence while doing a problem in which they are likely to make mistakes and also teaching them how to be patient if they are unable to solve something and how to go on forward from that…

Adjusting their teaching style to suit the way that student learns. Sometimes, explaining the content for a long time will work, but most of the time it doesn't. Inside TaigumTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 7 student Emily focused on constructing and interpreting frequency tables and histograms for data representation, as well as exploring how to write mathematically when working through her assignment.

Year 9 student Georgia tackled creative writing tasks and prepared for Shakespeare assessments, alongside reviewing key techniques relevant to her English curriculum.

Meanwhile, Year 10 student Sasha worked through inequalities and quadratic expressions by expanding and factorising, taking time to review previous content before an upcoming English exam.

Recent Challenges

In Year 11 Maths, one student was hesitant to ask clarifying questions on assignments and left sections incomplete, resulting in missed opportunities for targeted feedback—"she had all the discussion points but didn't start early enough to ask about what she didn't understand."

A Year 8 student struggled with unit conversions in area problems, relying heavily on notes rather than internalising processes; this slowed progress during unfamiliar exam questions.

In Year 5, unfinished homework meant times tables weren't retained between lessons, so multiplication fluency lagged behind.

For a Year 3 learner, messy written working made it difficult to trace calculation errors or revisit problem steps.

Recent Achievements

One Taigum tutor noticed a Year 10 student who previously doubted her answers now confidently finishing timed maths tests without hesitation.

Another high schooler, Oscar, has shown a real shift by openly identifying which algebra topics he struggles with—he used to keep quiet but now initiates these discussions himself, helping his tutor target lessons more effectively.

In primary, Sasha has started using counting techniques for times tables; she was able to complete an 11-question multiplication test perfectly after weeks of struggling with recall.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Bracken Ridge Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Taigum State School.
