The most important thing a tutor can do for a student is to build their confidence and foster a love for learning. Every child learns at their own pace, and as a tutor, it’s essential to be patient, supportive, and encouraging. By creating a safe space where students feel comfortable asking questions and making mistakes, I help them develop a…

I think a tutor has to be such kind of person who can unwillingly be able to establish himself/ herself as a role model to follow which will guarantee the success of the the student in the future. My personal opinion on me is I can understand the problem being faced by the students despite their denial about the problem and eventually bring them…

The most important thing is for a tutor to understand a student's preferences and what sort of teaching style would suit them. Different people have different learning suitabilities. Thus, a tutor should be able to adapt to suit the student's learning cues. My biggest strengths would be patience, determination, and the willingness to go above and…

I think having a positive relationship with the student is really important, in order to ensure there is mutual trust and understanding between student and tutor. The student understands that you want the best for them and in turn will try their best with you. In order to establish this, it is important to understand the pupil's likes, dislikes,…

As a tutor, I firmly believe in the profound impact that effective education can have on a student's life. Drawing from my experience in teaching as a CSR activity, I recognize several essential aspects that I consider crucial in nurturing a student's growth and learning journey. 1. Fostering Understanding: One of the most important things I…

To me, the most essential role a tutor can fulfill is that of an enabler and empowerer. I believe a tutor's primary goal should be to provide students with a strong foundation of knowledge and a resilient problem-solving framework, not only to tackle academic challenges but also to navigate any obstacle life may present. An empowering tutor equips…

Empathy is key. If a tutor can show how learning certain topics can help a student in the future, it keeps the student's interest held in the subject for longer. What really helps is to periodically give some positive feedback to the student about their progress - how he or she has improved in the past 3 months, or month, for example. Because of…

The most important thing to me is creating the networks for students to think for and teach themselves whenever our time is up. It's the classic saying, "give a man a fish he'll eat for a day, teach a man to fish and he'll eat for his whole life". A tutor should, like any good teacher, provide the student with the tools to critically evaluate…

Listening, understanding and providing constructive feedback further can additionally help both parties in learning.…

Helping children realise their full potential. It's important to turn negatives into positives for example, praising a child and making sure they know they have improved. Communication is also very important. As I am a teacher, I know that differentiated strategies are the way to teach. Differentiated instruction based on individual needs is…

I believe the most important things a tutor can do for a student is to listen to them because the student is the one who knows what they're struggling with and they are the ones who are going to tell me what they need to learn. Finding other ways of working out a problem. If something has been said and isn’t ‘going in’ we can try a visual approach or written down approach, whatever works for the student . Being patient I think is very important, not getting frustrated with the student and using positive language, for example ‘good try’ or ‘nearly there’.…

I believe the most important things a tutor can do are build trust, encourage genuine confidence, and teach students how to learn independently. I think my main strengths…

Encourage them to pursue their dreams. Teach them to be lifelong learners. I believe you have completely understood the concept when you can simplify it entirely. EzyMath Tutoring has been a wonderful experience for us. It was easy to organise in my busy schedule and convenient as the tutor comes to us at time that works. My son connected with his tutor from the get go and it was great to know EziMath Tutoring are always supportive with any questions I had. I thought the fees were very reasonable.

Inside TamaramaTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 11 student Paolo worked on differentiating equations to find stationary points and applied the product, quotient, and chain rules to various functions, as well as tackling definite and indefinite integration for area under curves.

Year 10 lessons with Emily included graphing trigonometric functions using the unit circle and breaking down formulas like Asin(nx+b)+C, plus exploring properties of cubics and hyperbolas through hands-on graphing exercises.

For a Year 8 student, recent sessions focused on mean, median, range, and interquartile range in statistics, alongside algebraic simplification involving unknowns in denominators.

Recent Challenges

A Year 8 student repeatedly arrived without completed homework, so lesson time was diverted to catching up rather than advancing ("homework from the previous week could not be checked as he could not find it").

In Year 11, a student avoided writing out working in unit conversion problems—opting to show only final answers. As a tutor noted, "he is only providing a final answer which is bad practice," making it hard to pinpoint misunderstandings and reinforce correct methods.

For another senior student, relying on memorizing steps instead of understanding (conversion tasks) meant new question types felt unfamiliar and slowed progress during revision sessions.

Recent Achievements

One Tamarama tutor noticed Jessy, a senior student, finally connecting tricky calculus concepts—after previously struggling with the product and quotient rules, she completed several differentiation questions independently, even handling inverse trig functions for the first time.

In another session, Tobey (Year 9) demonstrated a clear shift: he used to need step-by-step help with ratio word problems but now solves financial maths questions on his own and checks his work for errors without prompting.

Meanwhile, Lucas made tangible progress in algebra; after reviewing past mistakes on an exam paper together, he corrected every solution himself.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Waverley Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Bondi Public School.
