What do I enjoy most about tutoring? 😁
My favourite part about tutoring is the 'break through' moment when a student has been struggling to understand a concept or idea. When you explain it to them, for example through using a physical resource or image, and then they can understand it, you really feel that you have made a difference.
My Strengths as Tutor 💪
I am a clear communicator, who is patient and positive with my students. I take time to understand their strengths, weaknesses, likes and dislikes and use this to tailor my tuition to help them understand. I am very adaptable, so if I realise that the way I am explaining something isn't working, I will quickly change to a different strategy or approach to see if this helps them to understand better.
Most important things I can do for a student 🏅
I think having a positive relationship with the student is really important, in order to ensure there is mutual trust and understanding between student and tutor. The student understands that you want the best for them and in turn will try their best with you. In order to establish this, it is important to understand the pupil's likes, dislikes, how they like to learn and what motivates them. By doing this, it will then allow you to clearly communicate ideas, allow for the positive sharing of feedback and enable the pupil to progress further with their learning.

About Sophie
My background and experience
I am a qualified primary school teacher from the UK, with 3 and a half years of teaching full-time in a busy London school. I come from a high-achieving academic background, achieving top grades in my high school qualifications (equivalent to roughly 90 ATR). I then achieved first-class honours in my undergraduate Geography degree before completing my postgraduate certificate in teacher training. Last year, I completed a Masters degree in education, choosing to centre my research project on mathematics education.

We are going to work on developing the endings to her stories, working on the story mountain structure. We will also spend some time on the spellings from the assessment.
