What do I enjoy most about tutoring? 😁
There are two things I enjoy the most when teaching/tutoring.
Firstly, is the nature of the process. Learning how to communicate with them, how they better understand things and developing their knowledge along the way. It is always amazing to see the students change.
Secondly, is the aftermath. Watching a person who grew in confidence, who is able to solve things for themselves and enjoy doing it. And, the best part is how thankful they are for that.
My Strengths as Tutor 💪
I take great care on understanding how each student learns, and would say that, being able to adapt to their style is my biggest strength. For instance, if I realize that a student understood a concept well based on an example, I will repeat that form of teaching.
Also, my passion for teaching truly helps. I think by seeing my interest with the subjects I teach, students (mostly the younger ones) tend to get moved. This makes teaching lighter, and an activity instead of an obligation.
Most important things I can do for a student 🏅
To always be humble. Everyone has difficulties while learning something new, and having a tutor that does not make you feel bad for asking questions and trying to fully understand the content makes all the difference.

Scarlett responded positively to the visual method. She is moving beyond simply memorising steps and is starting to grasp the underlying principles of how multi-digit multiplication works. Her progress is steady, and she is becoming noticeably more comfortable and less hesitant when faced with these larger problems.
While she understands the logic, the process is not yet automatic. The main goal is to continue practising this skill until it becomes second nature, allowing her to solve these problems with both accuracy and efficiency. Mastering this is crucial as it forms a foundation for more advanced mathematical concepts.

The main challenge was in interpreting specific details within the text. She needed some guidance on how to slow down, re-read sections carefully, and locate the exact phrases or sentences that contained the answers to the questions. This skill, known as "close reading," is an area we will continue to develop.

This approach was very effective. Scarlett quickly made logical connections between fractions and decimals. She was able to identify their similarities and understood that they are just different ways of representing the same value, which immediately boosted her confidence with the new topic.
Scarlett encountered a common point of confusion: comparing decimals where place value is counter-intuitive. For instance, she struggled to understand why 0.10 (one-tenth) is larger than 0.050 (five-hundredths), as the number "50" looks bigger than "10". Our focus will be on reinforcing the critical importance of place value when working with decimals.

Scarlett rose to the challenge exceptionally well, scoring 80% on the comprehension questions with only two minor grammatical errors in her written answers. This is a fantastic result for a Year 5 level text. Furthermore, she demonstrated a remarkable ability to understand the new vocabulary from context clues alone. Her confidence and desire to be independent are notable strengths.
Navigating the much longer text to pinpoint specific information proved more difficult, requiring more time and effort. We also need to find a better balance with her independence; while her self-reliance is a positive trait, her desire to work entirely alone makes it hard to provide immediate feedback on her writing process, which can allow small mistakes to go unnoticed initially.
