Aside from helping students understand new concepts and develop practical academic skills, I believe the most important thing I can do as a tutor is to inspire them to change their perspective on learning. I strive to help students see their studies not as a burden but as an opportunity to gain knowledge and broaden their horizons. By fostering a…

I think the important thing for a tutor is to be clear in their concepts so that they can explain and teach their student in a clear and understanding way. As a tutor you need to make sure you test the student so that you know where they stand and then start from there. Evaluating the progress is just as essential. I consider myself a well…

A tutor's most important responsibilities are to foster a supportive learning environment, personalize instruction to meet the student's unique needs, and inspire confidence in the student's abilities. This involves not only teaching the subject matter effectively but also encouraging curiosity, providing constructive feedback, and being patient…

The most important thing a tutor can impart to her/his student is the ability to motivate. Motivation instills a passion, may it be for the subject taught or the anything beyond school hours, it gives the student a sense of purpose and drives the student to be ambitious. Once a student tells themselves that 'they can do it', there are innumerable…

The most important thing that a tutor can do for a student is to support them along their learning journey. Learning is not a linear experience and it does take a lot of patience, time, and effort, and as a tutor, it is important to guide and support their student throughout the journey. It is also important to be a mentor and someone that the…

The most important thing tutoring did for me was providing a deeper understanding of complicated topics that were hard to grasp. It is also important to be someone that the student feels comfortable coming to with help. So by showing understanding and appreciation for their effort, a student doesn't feel concerned for getting an answer wrong of…

It is most important to provide a comfortable space for students to make errors and learn, while also providing the motivation and space for studying to be completed. I focus on relatability but have also completed my QCE with relatively good grades and understand high school content. On top of this I have limited energy for tomfoolery, while…

I believe that each student should be heard in the classroom and encouraged to contribute to discussions. It is important for them to engage in active learning rather than just listening to a teacher speak passively. The most important thing a tutor can do is truly understand their student—how they think, what motivates them, and where they struggle. The two most important things would be to clear the basics of the subject and to keep the student interested in it. Most of the students develop phobia of maths or stop being interested in the subject because they do not understand the basics. This in turn, leads them to not focus on the subject even if they are capable of doing good in it or they…

The most important thing apart from helping the student understand that they can solve things on their own, is teaching the student how to study the subject. Inside TravancoreTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 5 student Max focused on multiplying and dividing mixed numbers, converting between improper fractions and decimals, and practised placing decimal points accurately during operations.

In Year 8, Lola tackled triangle side length and angle problems using trigonometric formulae like arcsin, as well as analysing literary themes and preparing essay arguments for her assessment on Brave New World.

Meanwhile, Year 9 student Max reviewed substitution into graph formulae, worked through coordinate geometry questions involving negative number laws and exponentials, and reinforced his understanding by reading textbook problems aloud.

Recent Challenges

In Year 8 Maths, one student often skipped back-checking their work on fractions and division, leading to repeated errors—he tries to add and subtract denominators, as he always forgets to first find a common denominator.

In VCE Chemistry, exam revision was left until the last minute, causing stress and limited time for consolidation.

Meanwhile, in Year 10 English, another student hesitated to express opinions in essays and defaulted to quoting texts instead of expanding on their own ideas. This pattern resulted in less developed arguments during class discussions and slower essay planning under time pressure.

Recent Achievements

A tutor in Travancore noticed Violet, a senior student, has started coming to each session with her own targeted questions and is now quick to ask for clarification when she's unsure—something she hesitated to do before.

In Year 9 maths, Max showed new independence by reading content himself first and diving straight into homework without prompting, which made the lesson more productive than usual.

For a younger student, Matthew breezed through a reading comprehension task that used to slow him down, showing how his practice is making these activities much smoother.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Flemington Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Flemington Primary School.
