The most important thing a tutor can do for a student is to put in time. They need to act as if it's not just a job which pays. Prepping lessons early, helping with questions outside of tutoring time, marking tests. All of these examples show a great tutor. - I put a lot of care into my work. - I love seeing others thrive through my help. - I…

A good tutor needs to understand the student's needs and areas of weakness and work on them. A tutor can engage more in helping the student understand specific concepts and make the environment of teaching interesting. The teaching environment can be made interesting by giving the students a reason to learn the concepts and showing real-world…

I believe the most important thing a tutor can do for a student is to make them want to study a topic, to present a topic in a certain way that makes the student more enthusiastic to learn. Although understanding a subject is extremely important, I believe the students' willingness to learn is equally important as trying to teach a student to…

My main focus is to not just explain the content in a way they really understand the principles behind it and it would not just be memorising the content on the student's part. I also believe that connecting with the student can help the teaching learning process a lot. I am a very understanding person in general. So I am most of the time capable…

I think a tutor should be able to tell if their student understands something or not, often they don't say it outright and asking them directly might not get them to admit it. So by asking them to solve a question that indirectly uses the concept might help us figure out if they're having trouble or not. Students should also feel comfortable with…

I believe the most important thing here would be to ensure the student understands what is being taught and is able to move forward in their learning. I think the most important thing is making the student feel comfortable asking questions. A tutor should focus on understanding where the student is getting stuck and help them build confidence, not just give answers. I'm patient and I don't rush students. According to me, the most important thing as a tutor is to try and try until the student understands, although it takes a lot of patience and time. It is also important to explore the student's best way of learning, which may include audio, visual, or kinesthetic, and make efforts to teach them accordingly. As a tutor, I first make my students…

The most important thing I believe a tutor can do for the students is to understand and listen to them and their needs. When a tutor listens and spends time building a relationship with his/her student, it allows the tutor to personalise the learning for the student by incorporating connections to the student's interests. In addition, it allows…

The most important job of a tutor is to instil the love of learning into the student, because that will motivate the student to become a self-learner and make learning a joy rather than a chore. The most important thing is trust that both tutor and student should have on each other. An ease of asking questions and making mistakes is another very important thing. Its okay to make mistakes but if your student is afraid of you , they would never ask questions and will be afraid to make mistakes so the tutor will never be able to…

Inside Trinity GardensTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 6 student Pranavi worked on multiplying decimals by 10, 100 and 1000 as well as tackling new statistics topics like understanding populations and samples.

In Year 8, Milly reviewed angle terminology and applied supplementary and complementary angle rules, also revisiting negative numbers from a recent test.

Year 9 student Harrison focused on solving quadratic equations using the null factor law, working through examples to consolidate his understanding for upcoming assessments.

Recent Challenges

A Year 7 student's written algebra often omitted the sign in front of terms, leading to confusion over positive and negative coefficients—"she sometimes forgets that the sign in front of the number (- or +) is included in the term," as noted after an exercise with expressions like 5-4x.

Meanwhile, a Year 10 student tackling factorising quadratic equations hesitated between manual methods and calculator use, resulting in lost time and incomplete working on paper.

During primary revision, a Year 4 learner mixed up number columns when adding four-digit numbers—one answer placed '3' in the thousands instead of hundreds, causing errors throughout the task.

Recent Achievements

A tutor in {SUBURB} noticed a big shift when a Year 10 student, Milly, began tackling reflex angles—she'd struggled to classify them before but now confidently identifies acute, obtuse, and even tricky reflex types.

In another session, Harrison (Year 11) started showing his working for trigonometry problems and could recall side relationships without prompting; he previously hesitated to write steps or relied heavily on hints.

Meanwhile, one of the younger students now asks for help when confused about converting mixed numbers to improper fractions instead of guessing—last week she solved every practice question on her own after just a quick reminder.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Norwood Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Trinity Gardens School.
