What do I enjoy most about tutoring? 😁
I enjoy being able to help others in achieving their goals, whether that be to get a high study score in their VCE subjects or to improve their grades, even a little.
My Strengths as Tutor 💪
I believe that as I am young and someone who has recently finished high school (in 2023), I believe that students will be more willing to be taught by someone like me as I am closer to them in age and am more aware of teaching methods which might suit them. I am also able to be friendly when needed and strict when needed, which I believe will help my students focus on their learning materials.
Most important things I can do for a student 🏅
I consider creating and fostering a trusting environment to be important for a tutor to do for their student as it allows rapport to be established between them. I feel like when rapport is established between a student and a tutor, the student will be more willing to pay attention and improve on their areas of weakness.

She also was able to point out what she needed help with and we were able to focus on that. Ellie completed most of the short answer questions and the long answer questions well after a brief explanation.
Ellie had some trouble with finding the gradient when given 2 points. After a few questions she was more confident. Overall, I would say Ellie has done well for her preparation for her test and that she should practise more long answer questions and gradient-specific short answer questions to help her become more confident in her skills.

Ellie understood the concepts well and was able to understand how a Cartesian plane needs to be drawn. She understood the concept of the x and y coordinates well and was able to plot them on the graph, with her only mistakes being to forget negative symbols. Overall Ellie did well in this session.
As this was the first section of this chapter and was only base knowledge for the concepts ahead, there are not a lot of abstract, long answer questions for this topic. Therefore, I would say Ellie should simply review the concepts at some point in the future so she ensures there are minimal mistakes in how she draws the Cartesian plane.

Once I went through a few examples with Ellie, she was able to solve for the gradient on her own. She was able to apply her understanding to negative numbers as well and also in situations where a pair of coordinates were given. She also understood the purpose of the y-intercept and how the gradient and y-intercept are applied in the equation of a line (y=mx+c).
As Ellie mentioned not being confident in Chapter 7 as a whole, I would like to go over previous sections with her to understand where Ellie needs more help. Overall for this chapter, as Ellie has performed well, my advice would be to do more long answer questions so she can apply her knowledge to abstract questions.

Ellie needs more practise in how to solve more complex equations and she also needs to go over her understanding of like terms. The type of equations Ellie struggles with are ones with 2 of the same variable.
