What do I enjoy most about tutoring? 😁
Witnessing the student's academic potential being fulfilled is a rewarding feeling as hard work will be met with great reward, since it will carry with them for their future prospects.
My Strengths as Tutor 💪
- Being about to break down complex concepts and explaining it to students with terms more familiar to them (eg using similies to compare or drawing to help with visuals)
- Display empathy and patience that learning new concepts can be difficult and challening
- Being encouraging with trying to learn even when mistakes are made
- Possess strong time management skills with deadlines, punctuality, and various tasks.
Most important things I can do for a student 🏅
As a tutor, it is important to be communicative with the students where ideas and thought process can be discussed so that learning can be improved. Communicating with a positive attitude will encourage students to try their best even when mistakes are made as doing something is better than nothing.

About Terry
Strong Educational Background
I managed to obtained an early offer to study Bachelor of Engineering (Honours) in Materials Engineering and Masters in Biomedical Engineering. As such, I'm familiar in dealing with organising heavy workload, displaying disciplined work ethics and developing study techniques to understand complex concepts.
Out-going & Gentle Personality
I was a part of SRC for my high school so dealing with people's concerns meant to show empathy and patience regardless of who is asking and what is being asked. Always had a positive and optimistic attitude even when things doesn't go to plan, be sure to bounce back.
Extracurricular Activities & Hobbies
Outside of academics, I'm involved with various student-run societies including being a year representative of a faculty society and secretary for a hobby-based society. Therefore, strong communication skills are used to convey ideas in clear and concise manner for the benefit of members' entertainment and enjoyment.

For mathematics, Hugo can understand and follow through the concept and theorems (First principle of Calculus) that was covered in class to which he can apply to various cases - finding stationary points of a curve, finding the differential of several functions. For physics, Hugo has a solid understanding of the module "Fundamental of Mechanics" where he can quickly and appropriately apply the concept to solve various questions.
The student needs to have more exposure to past paper questions where he can pick questions that accurately reflects his current syllabus. As well as, the student needs to provide the tutor his study/revision notes such that the tutor can be updated on the class progression with content. A summary of the lesson as well as practice questions will be provided to the student.
Alessandra was able to understand and breakdown difficult questions into numerical form which she can use to calculate to find her answer.
Alessandra was able to understand and breakdown difficult questions into numerical form which she can use to calculate to find her answer.
Regarding large multi-step calculations: Firstly, the student should recall any fundamental concept to act as a starting point/reference. Secondly, work through the question by breaking the steps into smaller parts that is more workable. Lastly, ensure the pace of working out is not rushed so calculations are clear enough to revisit and edit. A revision of today's lesson and practice questions will be given to the student by the tutor.

Try to implement a study system (e.g. writing a few key/summary notes of a topic) such that the information can be access efficiently for revision. When doing practice questions, ensure to read the question and multiple choices carefully as to avoid tricky wordings. A summary note of today's lesson and a few tips will be sent to the student.

For math, Alessandra was able to identify what the question was asking; as such was able to recall key concepts and plan her thought process quickly. For chemistry, Alessandra has a firm understanding regarding moles, its corresponding calculation and balancing chemical equation.
When calculating and writing working out - try to have order the equations step-by-step for better clarity and reduce chances of calculation errors. For multi-step calculations, try to keep calculations as exact values as to avoid potential rounding errors. For chemistry, more exposure to a range of practice questions will help consolidate her understanding which the tutor will provide.
