What do I enjoy most about tutoring? 😁
What I enjoy most about tutoring is that it lets me see math from different angles. Every student thinks in their own way, so explaining the same idea in different styles keeps it fun and also challenges me.
I also really enjoy seeing students improve. I’ve been teaching for more than 10 years, and it always makes me happy when a student makes progress—whether they start to like math more or just feel more comfortable using it for what they need in life.
My Strengths as Tutor 💪
My strengths as a tutor are:
I’m very personable and approachable, so students feel comfortable asking me questions and talking through their difficulties.
I have strong math skills and can break down difficult concepts into smaller, manageable pieces. This helps students feel they’re making real progress, which keeps them motivated.
I have a broad range of interests—math, computer science, linguistics, philosophy, sports, and music—so I can connect math topics to different areas and real-life experiences. This makes learning more engaging for students.
Most important things I can do for a student 🏅
I think the most important thing a tutor can do for a student is to guide them without taking over their learning. My teaching philosophy is “tut wuri handayani,†which means guiding from behind. For me, that means letting the student be at the front of their own learning journey while I stay behind to give direction, support, and encouragement. The challenge is really to see where the student is at and guide them step by step. If the tutor is always “in front,†the student might feel dragged along instead of growing on their own.
