What do I enjoy most about tutoring? 😁
What I enjoy most about tutoring is helping students understand and consolidate concepts they struggle with through tailored lessons in which their own learning method is targeted. I love seeing the satisfaction the students feel when they complete tasks they previously thought they were not capable of doing, which increases their confidence in their own capabilities. I love the opportunity of building a strong relationship with students in which they feel free to ask any difficult questions, knowing that I will be able to help them.
My Strengths as Tutor 💪
One of my strengths as a tutor is my great passion for teaching, as can be seen through my 18+ months of tutoring experience. I am currently studying a Bachelor of Science (pathway to teaching primary/secondary) and have been placed on the 2024 Dean's merit list at WSU, which reflects my passion for teaching and science. I have also achieved a very high grade of 98% in a math unit I took in one of my uni semesters, which reflects my capability of teaching math. I am also bilingual (English and Arabic) and have experience in working with children from diverse backgrounds.
Most important things I can do for a student 🏅
What I consider to be the most important thing for a tutor to do for a student is to help them understand and consolidate concepts they are struggling with through a personalised experience by targeting their own learning method. Additionally, it is very important to increase their confidence in their learning capabilities by teaching them skills beyond simple learning such as problem-solving, in which they can tackle a variety of problems they come across independently. It is important to design enjoyable lessons for them in which difficult concepts can be effectively communicated.

Ruby is starting to understand how to display her working out in an organised manner and the importance of writing formulas down. She actually improved so much, as can be seen in her previous homework with that! Great job Ruby! Today, she also learnt the concept of how to identify the remainder for a division question.
Ruby needs to further practice how to work out what the remainder is for a division question, she still needs to start applying the study skill of backchecking to prevent avoidable mistakes and make sure she is writing units at all times. Although she is improving, she needs to continuously apply the correct formatting skills, which include memorising and writing the formulas needed. She also needs to practice working with worded problems on the topic of the area and perimeter of a rectangle, as well as on all other topics. This includes learning the equivalent of words in word problems, such as that 'boundary' and 'fencing needed' refer to solving the perimeter. Overall, great job Ruby!

Ruby went well today with learning a lot of new content and math problem-solving methods, such as substituting pronumerals with numbers into the area of a circle and circumference of a circle formulas! Great job, Ruby!
With further practice on all of the new content and problem-solving methods learnt today, she will become more confident with and further consolidate this knowledge. Ruby should also memorise the area of a circle and circumference of a circle formulas, as well as practice solving worded problems. Based on her previous homework, Ruby still needs to apply the crucial skill of writing her working out, and do so in an organised and ordered manner. She should also apply the learning strategy of backchecking, which means that she needs to be doing every step of her solution twice as she works her way through a problem. This will greatly help her prevent minor mistakes that are often caused by students not checking their work. This is crucial as some mistakes are carried on errors that will result in the wrong answer.

Ruby went well today with learning the new content, which was on dividing decimals. She practiced on a few examples and was applying what she learnt well! I gave her homework on this as more practice is needed. She also did great when listening to me talking about the concept of the power of beliefs in one's abilities as a student in impacting their academic performance.
Based on her previous homework tasks, Ruby needs to practice her formatting skills when answering questions. This means that she needs to display her working out, and do that in an organised and ordered manner, so she is better able to identify her mistakes and understand the steps she took to solve the questions when revising her work in the future. This is a crucial habit as showing one's working out is a very important part of math that will help the student and will prevent them from losing marks. Ruby should also practice solving worded problems and questions that involve practical applications of fractions.

After going through the content, she is now better at writing algebraic expressions and forming algebraic expressions from worded problems. She also learnt something that she did not know how to do before, which is multiplying two/three decimals. I provided her homework on this so she can practice more and improve her confidence with such questions. She is also practicing the study techniques of pen to paper, talking aloud, and formatting skills well!
She needs more practice on working with different units, identifying useless pieces of information in a question, worded problems (measurement), multiplicative reasoning problems that involve ratios, and further practice with multiplication of two/three decimals. Overall, she learnt a lot of new content today, great job Ruby!
