What do I enjoy most about tutoring? 😁
The greatest joy a tutor can experience is finding a problem or method a student struggles with, working through it, locating the misunderstanding and watching it click. Many people don't enjoy school, especially when they think they're dumb for not understanding. Having the joy of finally understanding something and gaining confidence can make it so much more enjoyable, for the student and the teacher. Throughout my schooling, there were many moments I didn't enjoy. But having those lightbulb moments kept me engaged and I hope to help many kids have them too.
My Strengths as Tutor 💪
I think I'm good at helping people find the same joy in learning that I sometimes have, and I think that passion can be contagious sometimes. I teach highschool level Sunday school so I have experience trying to keep a class engaged while maintaining learning and with 1 on 1 tutoring I will be able to learn how to tailor that to the student, making it that much easier. Another big thing is I don't judge. I know more than anyone the feeling of thinking you can't do it, or you're not smart enough and that gives me the patience and understanding needed to cope with those situations.
Most important things I can do for a student 🏅
The obvious impact is to help them learn and understand the concepts covered in class as well as practice vital skills in preparation for them. I also believe that it is a tutors role to create a safe, respectful environment, built on mutual understanding and without judgement. A really good tutor should also develop skills, habits and a mindset that is carried into all the students studies, even after finishing tutoring.

- Subtraction took a bit of time to get right because his algorithms were very messy and misaligned, which made it hard to follow. This is something that we can work on and he improved by the end.

- Picked up multiplication method quickly and was able to do some big equations by herself by the end. - She also picked up basic division fairly easily and even came up with her own method which worked well. - Despite never doing division before, she was able to do each step on her own using the acronym 'DMSB'
- Couldn't wrap her head around the whole long division concept and wasn't able to do it on her own, so we will do more next lesson. - I gave homework that she completed during her brother's lesson but presumably used a calculator instead of showing out. My thought is that she couldn't do them without looking at how she did them before and was too afraid to come back with wrong answers.

- She felt comfortable reading in front of me this time. Both the reading excerpt as well as her own answers. - She was able to do all the year 6 level comprehension questions correctly without much help (just rephrasing the questions to make it a bit easier). - Was able to understand silent e's better and was able to correct the words she previously spelt wrong.
- Didn't remember much of the essay structure I taught, so I'm going to have to do a full lesson on that so she can do it multiple times.
