I moved to Perth from Ireland in August 2025. I have a bachelor's in Physics with Applied Physics and a master's in Data Science. My previous professional roles have involved a lot of teaching and mentorship that I believe helps me to connect to students and build their confidence.
Ross has hands-on experience mentoring interns and university students, not just doing the work himself. He has created personalised learning plans, written study materials and run small-group tutorials to walk learners through new concepts step by step. He also regularly checked in with his mentees, reviewed their work and helped them prepare presentations to explain what they had learned. This background means he is comfortable guiding students at different levels and adapting to their pace and confidence.
Although Rossβs background is science-focused, he is also a keen reader and long-term book club member, which keeps his written and spoken English sharp. He enjoys discussing stories, ideas and vocabulary, and can bring this enthusiasm into English sessions, especially for students who need help with comprehension and clear writing. Combining his analytical mindset with a genuine interest in language, he helps students break down questions, structure answers logically and build confidence in both English and maths.

Adelaide has significantly improved her understanding and ability to calculate with surds. By writing out perfect squares on the tip of her page, she was able to work them out in her head quickly and accurately.
Adelaide can sometimes be too reliant on calculating multiple steps in her head. This can lead to her carrying over mistakes in further calculations with no record of where the mistake occurred. This can be remedied by writing each step of calculation out in full to both keep track and also gain all available marks in tests and exams.

Victoria showed great understanding of energy conversion on a tricky question. She was also able to understand how refrigeration works by applying her knowledge of phase changes and describing the processes involved.
Victoria opened the tutorial with a question from a past paper she had done. After some minutes, I realised that the question was not part of her syllabus for this year, which should be something to consider when looking at old materials for study. Electricity was included in Unit 1 up until this year, so previous material may be outdated.

Victoria continues to grow in her understanding of probability and combinations. She has continued to be clear in which aspects of the course she does not understand and is willing to work to learn and understand.
Victoria struggled again with an algebraic probability table, for which we had completed a similar question before. I included another version of this in her homework, so hopefully this will help her to remember the process and understand what is required.

Gabe was able to catch certain complications that I had inserted into the questions that could easily have been missed. This is a crucial skill in methods as the examiners are always sure to create questions that make the students use their knowledge in a novel way.
Gabe made a crucial calculation error that would have been easily seen and corrected if he had written out each step of his calculations rather than doing them in his head.
