What do I enjoy most about tutoring? π
Seeing or hearing that 'Aha!' when a student finally gets the step that has been blocking them from solving that type of problem.
My Strengths as Tutor πͺ
Breaking complex steps down into the simplest ones possible.
Getting a student to articulate exactly which step it is that they can't do.
Pausing before I speak and maintaining eye contact, so that the student knows they are being heard.
Most important things I can do for a student π
Make them feel important.
Help them find their stumbling point, bring them to a place of understanding, then give them enough repetition to cement in their new skill, and watch them grow in confidence.
Build a relationship that will result in their confidence building naturally, with every little step of success along the way.

About Terry
Faith
I am a Christian.
I believe everybody has the right to choose their own faith.
I am happy to discuss matters of faith when time permits.
Entertainment
I am too old to play most sports.
I like to go fishing when opportunity presents.
Thoughtful, Culturally Aware and Flexible Approach
Terryβs long-term work with students from diverse cultural backgrounds has made him very aware of language barriers, different schooling experiences and varying levels of confidence. He uses everyday examples, visual aids and plenty of repetition to make sure each student feels safe to ask questions and admit when they are lost. He can follow the schoolβs current topic or create targeted lessons to fill gaps, and is happy tutoring in the family home (with another adult present) or in a small-group setting.
