What do I enjoy most about tutoring? 😁
As an engineering graduate, I can relate to the challenges associated with understanding advanced mathematical and mechanical concepts around engineering studies. I also relate to the satisfaction an individual can gain from understanding and applying topics in their work and inspire future career paths. I find the experience of enabling that satisfaction in other students an incredibly rewarding experience as well as constantly evolving my own understanding of the subjects to make them accessible to all students and create valuable career opportunities for them in the future.
My Strengths as Tutor 💪
I believe my main strengths as a tutor is my patience around taking the time to fully understand topics and creating relationships between them and applications in real world problem solving which I creates connections to real life problems rather than remaining abstract topics. I am a visual learner and therefore a visual teacher. I do my best to present information in the most accessible form and build up complexity in a way that does not overwhelm the students.
Most important things I can do for a student 🏅
I believe one of these to be to build confidence in students by praising their way of thinking and problem solving. A good learning attitude promotes good motivation to tackle future topics and most importantly enjoy the process. A part of this comes down to creating a safe environment and encourage learning through error and taking risks, as is the most effective way to learn any skill

About Alex
Strong maths foundations with real-world engineering experience
Alex is a first-class Mechanical Engineering graduate with a strong track record in high-level mathematics and problem solving. He has applied advanced maths and physics to real engineering projects, such as designing a custom exhaust system for a racing team and developing software that converts 3D models into precise manufacturing toolpaths. This tutor uses these practical examples to show students why maths matters, helping them connect classroom topics to real-life applications in engineering, technology, and everyday problem solving.
Clear communicator who breaks down complex ideas
Through leading a university project team and presenting technical work to mixed audiences, Alex has developed clear, patient communication skills. He is used to explaining complex ideas step by step, whether it’s the logic behind an equation or how a computer program works. In tutoring sessions, he focuses on uncovering where a student is getting stuck, then rebuilding their understanding with simple language, diagrams, and worked examples so they feel confident tackling questions on their own.
Structured, hands-on approach to building confidence
Alex brings an organised, engineering-style approach to tutoring: diagnose the problem, test a method, and refine it together. He often uses mini “challenges” and real scenarios—like analysing forces on a racing car or modelling everyday situations—to make maths more engaging, especially for students who like practical learning. This tutor is calm, encouraging, and goal-focused, helping students prepare for exams, strengthen core skills, and develop the independent thinking they need for long-term academic success.
