Verified Tutor
Fergus is a Bachelor of Science and Music student with strong results across maths, physics and chemistry, including multiple high distinctions in national maths competitions and a high distinction in a national chemistry competition. He draws on this depth of subject knowledge to explain ideas clearly, from fractions and algebra through to senior physics concepts. Fergus has already helped school and university students lift their marks and, just as importantly, feel more confident using what they’ve learnt back in the classroom.
Through his private tutoring, Fergus designs his own lesson plans and adapts his teaching style to each student, whether they are in primary school, high school or starting university. He focuses on breaking complex and abstract concepts into simple, logical steps, checking understanding at every stage. His experience leading school tours and workshops, and regularly MC’ing concerts and events, shows in his calm, engaging manner and ability to keep students focused while still enjoying the session.
Beyond academics, Fergus brings strong mentoring experience from leading a brass band section and guiding younger musicians. He is used to building confidence in shy learners, encouraging them to ask questions and take intellectual risks. In tutoring sessions he uses similar strategies: modelling worked examples, then gradually handing responsibility over to the student. Parents can expect a tutor who is patient, organised and positive, and who genuinely enjoys helping young people grow both their skills and their self-belief.
