What do I enjoy most about tutoring? 😁

What I enjoy most about tutoring is seeing a student go from feeling confused or unsure about a concept to suddenly understanding it and gaining confidence. Those “light bulb” moments are really rewarding because they show that the student is not only learning the material but also beginning to believe in their ability to succeed.

My Strengths as Tutor 💪

Having attended Perth Modern School, WA’s only fully academically selective school, I developed strong academic skills and an appreciation for effective learning strategies, which I now bring into my tutoring. I also enjoy being able to tailor explanations to different learning styles, especially in subjects like maths and English where students often just need the concept explained in a slightly different way to fully grasp it. Another one of my main strengths as a tutor is patience. I understand that every student learns at a different pace, so I make sure to explain concepts clearly and break them down into manageable steps. I am also good at adapting my explanations depending on the student, whether that means using examples, visual methods, or real-life applications. In addition, I try to create a supportive environment where students feel comfortable asking questions and making mistakes, because that's an important part of the learning process.

Most important things I can do for a student 🏅

I think the most important things a tutor can do for a student are to build their understanding, confidence, and independent learning skills. While helping with specific topics or homework is important, a tutor should also help students develop the skills to approach problems on their own. This means encouraging critical thinking, showing different strategies to solve problems, and reinforcing the idea that mistakes are part of learning. Ultimately, a good tutor should help students feel more confident in their abilities both during tutoring sessions and when they work independently.
