What do I enjoy most about tutoring? 😁

I really enjoy sharing my own knowledge of math and my thought process behind the subject with other students. I have so much respect for the discipline of math because I feel that it is possible for anyone to learn and understand if it is gone about in a way that works for each individual, so I aim to find the best approach with each student I tutor. After spending many years studying math and receiving my degree in Applied Mathematics from UC Berkeley, I love helping others feel the same sense of satisfaction when a new math approach finally clicks.

My Strengths as Tutor 💪

My strengths as a tutor stem largely from my experience as a long-time student of math, who has received plenty of help from teachers and peers. This has given me the chance to develop patience for being in the position of not understanding a topic. Also, I am able to adapt quickly and can change the approach if it doesn't work for a student.

Most important things I can do for a student 🏅

I think one of the most important things a tutor can do for a student is to be patient. It can take repeated explanations, many practice problems, or even multiple days to fully grasp a mathematical concept, and this is entirely normal and okay. It is best to move at the pace which fits each student rather than rush and cause stress and frustration. Working with the student as a team and allowing them to take a break or simply sit and think can create a much more accessible tutoring environment. Overall, having a friendly and fun tutoring experience is very important to maintain motivation.

About Roxanne

Strong Maths Foundation with Real Tutoring Experience

Roxanne is an applied mathematics and economics graduate who brings a solid academic foundation directly into her tutoring. She has hands-on experience tutoring private students in Algebra, helping them break down tricky concepts into clear, manageable steps. Drawing on her university-level maths background, she focuses on building confidence as well as accuracy, so students not only get the right answers but understand why they are right. This tutor is particularly good at supporting high school students who need to strengthen their core maths skills.

Clear Communicator and Student-Focused Leader

As a captain of a university cheerleading team, Roxanne has led training sessions, explained complex routines, and motivated a diverse group of students to perform under pressure. This leadership experience translates directly into her tutoring style: structured, encouraging, and highly organised. She is used to breaking skills into stages, giving specific feedback, and celebrating progress, which helps school students stay engaged and accountable. Parents can expect regular, clear communication about goals, progress, and next steps.

Analytical Problem-Solver with Real-World Perspective

Roxanne’s background in research and data analysis means she approaches maths as a set of puzzles to be understood, not just rules to be memorised. She often uses real-life examples from economics and everyday situations to make abstract topics like algebra and functions feel more concrete for students. Outside academics, her interests in swimming, CrossFit and baking give her plenty of creative ways to connect with active or hands-on learners, tailoring explanations and practice questions to each student’s personality and interests.
