What do I enjoy most about tutoring? 😁

The thing I enjoy most is the moment a student's face changes when something finally clicks. Those lightbulb moments are incredibly rewarding, especially in subjects where students often arrive feeling like the content is completely beyond them. Beyond that, I genuinely love getting to know my students as people. Building real rapport makes sessions more enjoyable for everyone and, in my experience, leads to much better outcomes. When a student feels comfortable and supported, their confidence grows naturally and that often makes all the difference.

My Strengths as Tutor 💪

My biggest strength is creating a calm, low pressure environment where students feel safe to ask questions and make mistakes. I know from my own experience as a competitive swimmer that performance is so much easier when you have someone in your corner who believes in you. My coach Anthony had that quality and it had a profound impact on me, both in and out of the pool. I try to bring that same energy to tutoring. Having achieved a 95.95 ATAR through SACE myself, I also have a thorough understanding of exactly what is expected at Stage 1 and 2, so I can focus sessions on what actually matters.

Most important things I can do for a student 🏅

The most important thing a tutor can do is make a student feel genuinely capable. So many students arrive having already decided they are not a science person or that a certain grade is out of reach. Breaking down that belief, one session at a time, is where the real work happens. Alongside that, consistency and rapport are everything. A tutor who shows up prepared and genuinely cares about their student's progress will always outperform one who simply knows the content.

About Patrick

What was your favourite subject at school?

My favourite subject as school had to have been Chemistry. Learning about all the interactions between molecules that shape our world is so fascinating to me. It's also super fun to play around with contraptions and chemicals in the lab!

What sports do you play?

I was a national level swimmer in high school, but have since retired to focus on other things. At the moment, I'm in love with Taekwondo! It's super fun breaking boards with your kicks, and it's also a great opportunity to socialise!

Why do you love tutoring?

I love tutoring for so many reasons, but the main one is how satisfying it is. The best part of my work is seeing a student understanding a concept they thought was "too hard", and slowly learning to love the subject.
