What do I enjoy most about tutoring? 😁

I have always enjoyed learning maths and physics, and as a tutor, I want to try to spread my passion for this subjects to students. The thing I enjoy the most about tutoring is being able to help someone else fully understand a concept, and allowing them to achieve their "aha moment". Not only is this helping a student build their confidence, but it also allows me to feel a sense of achievement.

My Strengths as Tutor 💪

One of my main strengths as a tutor is my patience. One of my earliest career aspirations was to become a teacher, and although I did not end up following through with it, I still frequently helped my friends at school with questions and concepts that needed understanding. I have experience with patiently going step by step and breaking down problems and helping solve them from scratch. Another strength is that I am able to adjust my teaching to suit many different learning styles. Explaining questions in different ways is useful in teaching students of different learning backgrounds.

Most important things I can do for a student 🏅

One of the most important things a tutor can do is creating a comfortable, friendly atmosphere to learn. I believe that first creating a connection with the students is important for them to feel at ease, and create the right space for learning. This can be achieved through speaking to them as equals, making jokes, and generally creating a friendly atmosphere that they can look forward to going back to every week. This is important to allow students to be completely comfortable with sharing in class, and to not be afraid of making mistakes.

About Olivia

High-achieving student with strong Maths and problem-solving skills

Olivia is a high-performing senior student who brings strong analytical and problem-solving skills to her tutoring. She has taken part in national Maths competitions such as the CAT and AMC, showing confidence in tackling challenging questions and explaining tricky concepts clearly. Through a university extension Physics subject, she has worked with advanced material and learnt how to break complex ideas into manageable steps, a skill she uses to help younger students feel capable and confident in Maths and related subjects.

Real school experience and proven leadership with younger students

Olivia has hands-on experience working in a primary school, where she supported teachers and interacted with younger students in the classroom. She has held several leadership roles, including Transition Captain in primary school and Peer Support Leader in high school, guiding younger students through school routines and study expectations. These experiences mean she understands how to connect with children, explain instructions patiently, and create a calm, encouraging learning environment for both primary and early high school learners.

Creative, bilingual tutor who makes learning engaging

Outside the classroom, Olivia is a dedicated pianist and violinist, performing in ensembles and festivals and even leading an ensemble herself. This musical training has strengthened her focus, discipline, and attention to detail, which she brings into her tutoring sessions. As a fluent speaker of English and Chinese, she can support students from bilingual or multilingual families and is especially good at explaining concepts in different ways. Olivia enjoys using real-life examples and creative activities to keep students engaged while steadily building their skills.
