What do I enjoy most about tutoring? 😁

I love watching the lightbulb moment on students' faces. It's always rewarding to track a student's progress over time, and watch them gain more confidence in their skills while constantly improving their performance. It's unique, as from my experience, it's much more challenging in classrooms to provide that tailored support extensively to each student, the way I do currently individually or in small groups.

My Strengths as Tutor 💪

I meet the student where they are, and give them agency within the session. Learning is collaborative in my opinion, and so I include the student in having mutual learning goals, and rely on pedagogy such as the learning pit model, allowing exploration that gets refined into skill and understanding. I make the learning relevant to their world. The student is a person, and I tutor as such. I think on my feet. Sometimes the student does not know what they're covering in school. Or simply have no material. I am quick to plan out a session that focuses on the student's learning needs.

Most important things I can do for a student 🏅

Seeing the student as their own person. Listening to the student, allowing them time to formulate their thoughts - encouraging this. Allowing the student to challenge the tutor's thoughts, and building their critical thinking skills. Being incredibly flexible while still meeting the learning goals for the student. Patience and providing encouragement, while helping the student construct their learning, step by step. Noticing misconceptions early on and addressing them. Knowing what to prioritise in the lesson.
