What do I enjoy most about tutoring? 😁
I love working with kids and getting to know new people. I especially love helping people and watching their growth and progression in their learning because it gives me a sense of accomplishment and pride. I love watching their realisation of something "clicking" so that they feel excited about their learning and feel confident in answering more questions, making math more fun and satisfying rather than boring.
My Strengths as Tutor 💪
I'm really patient and I'm good at explaining things in different ways until one sticks, or also using relatable concepts in life or topics of intrests to help students be engaged and understand. I also think being close in age to my students helps as it is easier to build that student-teacher bond and allow me to understand from their point of views. I remember what it felt like to find maths confusing, so I can relate to where they're coming from and make it feel less intimidating and hopefully more enjoyable.
Most important things I can do for a student 🏅
Build their confidence as much as their knowledge because a lot of students who struggle with maths have already told themselves they're 'bad at it.' If you can shift that mindset alongside teaching the content, the results follow. because they have more motivation and energy to try harder everytime. I also think that acting as a mentor as well as a tutor is important so that they can come to you if they are feeling stressed for a test and you can provide strategies to help with staying calm ,and just being able to guide them through the whole high school journey as that trusted mentor.

About Caroline
A bit about my educational background
I'm a first-year Bachelor of Science student at the University of Melbourne, and a proud graduate of Kingswood College where I finished with an ATAR of 97. At school I studied Chinese, Biology, English, Psychology, General Mathematics and Mathematical Methods, so I know firsthand what it takes to juggle a full VCE workload while still doing well. I now go back to Kingswood every week as a Thrive Mentor, helping students with homework and exam prep through the school's after-school Thrive Program, so tutoring isn't just something I do, it's something I genuinely love.
My approach to tutoring
I tutor students from Prep right through to Year 11, and I love making maths feel simple and achievable rather than stressful. Whether it's building confidence with the basics or getting exam-ready, I focus on clear, patient explanations that actually make sense, no jargon, no rushing.
A bit of me outside of work
Outside of tutoring, I've played piano for 10 years and spent seven years studying Latin, ballroom and ballet dancing. I'm a big fan of Italian food (spaghetti bolognese, risotto and gnocchi are my go-tos), I love a good movie night, Aladdin is my all-time favourite, and I've got two very spoiled Maltese Shih Tzus at home.
