What do I enjoy most about tutoring? 😁
What I enjoy most about tutoring is helping students overcome concepts they once found difficult. I think learning can be frustrating when something just doesn't seem to click, so it's really rewarding when a student suddenly understands a concept after working through it together. I'm also quite empathetic, so I enjoy creating an environment where students feel comfortable asking questions and making mistakes while they learn.
My Strengths as Tutor 💪
One of my biggest strengths is my ability to identify exactly where a student is getting stuck. During college, I received a Certificate of Appreciation for a year long Maths Methods peer mentoring program where I ran weekly sessions for 4–5 students. I've always been someone who asks a lot of questions in class, and I've experienced what it's like to receive answers that don't fully address the point of confusion. Because of that, I try to understand every step of a student's thinking process so I can target the specific part they are unsure about rather than simply repeating an explanation.
Most important things I can do for a student 🏅
I think the most important thing a tutor can do is build a student's confidence and independence. While helping students improve academically is important, a tutor should also guide them in developing good problem solving habits and a positive attitude towards learning. I want my students to see me as someone they can comfortably ask questions to and rely on for support, while also helping them become capable of tackling challenges on their own.
