What do I enjoy most about tutoring? 😁
I enjoy the moment when a concept finally clicks for someone. Through my time as Math Faculty Captain in high school, I've seen at our homework help sessions how rewarding it is to break something down patiently and watch someone go from confused to confident. Maths is really satisfying when a method finally makes sense, and that is a feeling I want to be able to help students achieve.
My Strengths as Tutor 💪
Patience with a genuine grasp of mathematics. I was Mathematics Faculty Captain in school, and I have continued my love of maths into university as I take on actuarial studies, so I am comfortable explaining concepts at different levels. I am also reliable and organised, which I think matters just as much as subject knowledge. Through leading a team at Enactus Monash and coordinating volunteers in my ministry role, I am used to following through on commitments and keeping people on track.
Most important things I can do for a student 🏅
I believe it is important to build confidence rather than just knowledge. A lot of students who struggle with maths aren't actually behind, but rather have had a bad experience with it somewhere and stopped believing they can do it. I think the most important thing a tutor can do is create a space where it's okay to get things wrong and notice what exactly about a concept is tripping the student up rather than just re-teaching the same way that already hasn't worked.
