What do I enjoy most about tutoring? 😁
Seeing the progress within students when they are guided by your aid as a teacher is a very rewarding aspect. It shows that I can make a positive permanent impact within their educational life, which will aid them for years to come.
My Strengths as Tutor 💪
I am able to maintain great patience in the face of hurdles, such as a student not cooperating to instructions or not understanding them. This allows me to establish a safe space between tutor and mentee, where the student is able to feel comfortable. Such a positive space can ultimately foster the further educational growth of the student.
Most important things I can do for a student 🏅
The most important thing a tutor can do is ensure that their student understands every concept before moving in, and is able to be vocal about it. If you move on too fast across a range of concepts without recieving verbal feedback from the student, this will hinder their ability to ingest further concepts to come within the future. Such a setback would negatively impact their educational life, both short term and long term.

About Absalat
Passionate tutor and student
Hi, I'm Absalat Samuel, a current student at Monash University. I am undergoing a Bachelor of Pharmacy (Honours)/Masters of Pharmacy program. I was able to be provided such an opportunity due to the countless tutors I had attended to early and later on in life, which guided me to earn a 92.5 ATAR. Such experiences have truly helped me understand that providing proper educational support early on within a student's life sets them up for a future full of success. This realisation is why I strive to fulfil my role as a passionate tutor with all of my efforts, so that the education of the future generation is not compromised but rather perfectly developed.

Jihya showed strong engagement throughout the lesson and demonstrated a solid understanding of homophones, correctly identifying and using them in context. She also displayed a good grasp of general narrative structure, recognising key story elements to understand how they fit together. Her participation during reading activities was positive, and she responded thoughtfully to questions.
Jihya tends to shy away from tasks that feel even slightly challenging, often doubting her ability before she begins. When presented with activities that require more independent thinking, such as creating her own narrative last lesson, she becomes hesitant and finds the task daunting, even though she demonstrates the underlying skills during guided work.

Jihya showed clear improvement in her reading fluency today, confidently sounding out unfamiliar words by breaking them into smaller parts and picking up new vocabulary as she read. She grasped the difference between verbs, adverbs, adjectives, and nouns, applying this understanding accurately during her NAPLAN style questions.
Jihya would benefit from further practice identifying nouns, verbs, adjectives, and adverbs in sentences where multiple word types are present. When the questions do not provide hints or scaffolding, she sometimes hesitates or misclassifies certain words. Continued exposure to mixed sentence examples and more independent practice will help her build confidence and accuracy.

Jihya demonstrated strong reading skills throughout the lesson. She was able to successfully sound out unfamiliar words in both the activity and the book by breaking them into smaller parts, showing improved reading fluency. She also broke down the text effectively to identify key narrative elements, including the setting, main characters, the conflict, and how the problem is solved. Her ability to analyse the story and extract these features shows growing confidence in her comprehension and critical thinking.
. At times, she tends to skip lines or change words subconsciously, which can be improved by using a pencil or finger to trace each sentence and slowing her pace when she notices herself reading too quickly. With continued practice and regular reading, her fluency and accuracy will naturally improve.

Jihya was able to use her critical thinking skills to understand the usage of commas, alongside the curation of her own sentences requiring them. During the readings, she was able to 'sound out' many words she was unfamiliar with by breaking them down into their smaller parts, showing an increased reading fluency.
During readings, she requires an understanding of when to break up a sentence to take a breath. Reading fluency can also be improved to be smoother, which is to be achieved naturally through more readings.
