What do I enjoy most about tutoring? 😁
The thing I enjoy most about tutoring is helping students build confidence over time and watching their experience with the material improve. I think math can be really enjoyable and it's rewarding to help someone have a positive experience with it rather than constantly feeling defeated and frustrated.
My Strengths as Tutor 💪
Listening thoughtfully is one of my strengths as a tutor. I listen to understand each student better and familiarize myself with how they learn individually. This also helps me improve as I work with more and more students. Additionally, I believe I ask the right questions myself, in order to guide students in the right direction and help them "stumble" into solutions on their own. Another strength I will add is that I have a lot of learning and life experience and I believe that can be really helpful in offering advice for students when they get stuck and don't feel like continuing.
Most important things I can do for a student 🏅
Most importantly, I think a tutor can demonstrate and guide a student on how to best deal with the frustration and adversity that comes their way. Frustration is a common effect of learning anything and if you're not equipped to overcome it, you may struggle a lot more than you need to and you may also be more likely to give up prematurely. I think a big part of tutoring is showing students that being frustrated is a key part of learning and it's okay.

About Cassidy
Mathematics graduate with research experience
I hold a Bachelor of Science in Mathematics from the University of San Francisco, where I received the Batey Award and completed a research fellowship in game theory. I've spent time working through the full high school and early university math sequence — algebra through calculus — to make sure my own foundations are sharp, not just remembered. I'm based in Melbourne and available for both online and in-person sessions.
Focused on building independent problem-solvers
I like to ask questions rather than just hand over answers — I'd rather a student find their own way to the "why" behind a method, because that understanding is what sticks. I especially enjoy working with students who've lost confidence in math; it's one of my favorite things to watch someone go from dreading a subject to actually feeling capable in it. Sessions with me are patient, judgment-free, and paced to whatever the student actually needs, not a script.
What I've learned from competitive sport
I played Division 1 soccer in the US for four years, followed by two years semi-professionally and a further year at the collegiate level in Hawaii. That level of competition has taught me things a classroom couldn't like how to handle pressure, how to absorb feedback without taking it personally, and how to keep showing up on the days where I don't feel like it. I bring the same mindset into tutoring! Progress in math is rarely about talent, it's about consistent, honest effort, and I know how to help a student build that habit.
