What do I enjoy most about tutoring? 😁
The moment a student stops checking with me. Early on they'll write one line and look up to see if it's right. After a few weeks they just keep going, because they trust their own reasoning. That's the part I find most rewarding. The marks improve as well, but that's not what stays with me about a student. It's the fact that my tutoring has given them the self-confidence to navigate newer challenges.My Strengths as Tutor 💪
Working out what's actually going wrong. A student will say they don't understand quadratics, but often the real gap is with negatives or fractions from a few years earlier, and more quadratics practice won't fix it. So I spend the early sessions asking questions and watching how they work before I start teaching. I've also learned not to fill the silences. My instinct used to be to step in the moment a student paused, but usually they're thinking, and stepping in takes away the part where the learning happens. Additionally, I find analogies to be a great tool at explaining concepts.Most important things I can do for a student 🏅
The relationship comes first. If a student is embarrassed to say they don't understand something, you can't teach them, so making it safe to be wrong has to come before any of the content. Then confidence, the kind that comes from solving something difficult themselves. Being told they're clever doesn't do much. Getting there on their own does a lot. Finally, teaching them to learn, and be self-dependent. Ideally, I should be working myself out of a job. I am honest with the parents about the progress and areas of development, so they can take appropriate measures for the child's development.Subjects Tutored 🎓

Lincoln struggles with express himself in writing, more specifically, he struggles with finding the correct words to explain what he wants to express. This is likely due to having viewed the topics as more complex than they are. I have initially assigned him a small task to evaluate his writing level, given no time or research bounds, and will proceed from there to improve his writing.
