What do I enjoy most about tutoring? 😁
What I enjoy most is the 'aha' moment, that instant when a student finally gets something after a long session of working through it together. It never fails to make me smile. I think that's why I'm drawn to tutoring in the first place: I've always loved puzzles and chess (I'm rated 1400 on Chess.com), and teaching feels like the same kind of challenge. Every student thinks differently, so the real puzzle is finding the right explanation that makes a concept click for them. I was personally mentored by Adrian Tirtadjaja, founder of Lexus Indonesia, who built it into one of Indonesia's top luxury brands in a fiercely competitive market, largely through storytelling in sales. That's the biggest lesson he taught me: storytelling makes knowledge stick, long after the conversation ends. I bring that into tutoring by wrapping difficult concepts in stories students actually remember. Empathy. Teaching is fundamentally a transfer of knowledge, but that transfer only works if you first understand how the student thinks, where they're stuck, and what's making them anxious or disengaged. A good tutor adapts their explanation to the student's learning style rather than repeating the same approach that didn't work the first time. About Kevin
Background & Credentials
I'm currently pursuing a fully funded PhD at the University of Melbourne, researching ice melting under internal waves in stratified fluids using PIV experiments and Physics-Informed Neural Networks (PINNs), within Environmental Fluid Mechanics. I hold an MSc in Mechanical Engineering with Industrial Management (Distinction, University of Sheffield, LPDP-funded) and a BSc in Mechanical Engineering from Institut Teknologi Bandung. I've taught as a Teaching Assistant to 200+ students across seven courses, and before returning to research, worked as a B2B After Sales Supervisor at Astra Honda and a Management Training Officer at Toyota Astra Motor, building training curricula for dealer teams.
