What do I enjoy most about tutoring? π
What I enjoy most is seeing the moment when a student stops asking, βWhat formula do I use?Γ’β¬ and starts asking, βWhy does this work?Γ’β¬ That shift from dependence to curiosity is what makes tutoring rewarding for me. I like helping students reach the point where they can explain an idea back to me in their own words, because that is when I know I have helped build understanding rather than simply helped them finish a question.My Strengths as Tutor πͺ
My biggest strength is that I am comfortable explaining the same idea in completely different ways. If one explanation does not click, I do not assume the student is the problem. I change the explanation. I might use an analogy, a diagram, a simpler example, or work backwards from the answer. I am also good at identifying the small misunderstanding underneath a much bigger problem, which often allows a student to improve much faster than simply doing more practice questions.Most important things I can do for a student π
I think a tutor should gradually make themselves unnecessary. The goal should not be to become the person a student needs beside them every time they encounter a difficult question. A good tutor teaches them how to approach unfamiliar problems, recognise what they do and do not understand, and recover when they get stuck. Subject knowledge matters, but giving a student confidence, independence and a better way of thinking will usually have a much longer-lasting impact than helping them get one answer right.Subjects Tutored π
