What do I enjoy most about tutoring? 😁
I think communication is a skilful game of problem solving: how do I convey concisely and completely what I know to someone at a deficit? The act of teaching not only serves them, but for myself it trains and fleshes out my understanding, to improve it for my own use and further teaching the next time and the next. I also just enjoy maths and English as transferable, foundational concepts and never eschew a chance to propogate them.
My Strengths as Tutor 💪
I am an empathetic person and I will reword and restart my attempts at getting through to someone on a particular thesis or concept until I find the line that breaks the barrier. I'm not an egotistical person or one with a temper; I have experience deescalating and placating, finding compromise, and meeting people at their pace. As someone who walks and bikes, I can meet my students hopped up on endorphins ready to honestly engage my mind and theirs and have a real crack at their betterment.
Most important things I can do for a student 🏅
Primary and secondary schools suffer a kind of class division between student and teacher, where they can be despotic, unapproachable, and one-size-fits-all. A tutor has to be the opposite, and reach out to a student on the level of friendship, so the sharing of ideas can be frank, free, and untroubled. A tutor should be just as prepared as a teacher though, and do his own homework in the case of absences of knowledge and unanswered questions from the student, so it may be a symbiotic learning experience session by session.
