I think the most important thing is listening to the student to focus on exactly what they need help with and give them techniques they can take home so they can continue to understand better. I think my greatest strength is figuring out ways to successfully explain to the person im tutoring in a way them helps them understand…

The most important thing an english tutor can do is make the student passionate about their subject. If the student isn't motivated to learn, no amount of lecturing or assignments will help them. There are so many small things about each subject that are super interesting to learn about, but without the right tutor some students miss out. As a…

The most important thing an english tutor can do for a student is ensure the tutor works towards the students strengths and attempts to minimise their weaknesses. Tutors should also be considerate to their student by considering their needs and how they like to learn so that their student's highest potential is achieved. I believe I am patient,…

Inspire. Children are an inspiration to their teachers. As mentioned before, children are an inspiration to me since I get to learn from them as much as they get tutored from me. Understanding and patient. A lot of parents and teachers lose their patience and become unempathetic while teaching little children, however they're still learning and…

I think there are a couple of important things an english tutor can do for their student. The first is being a patient person who is going to push them to do the best they can, not rush them through their work. The second is being someone the student feels comfortable making mistakes in front of as mistakes are one of the most important parts to…

Providing clear academic support, personalizing the learning experience, and fostering confidence. While explaining concepts is important, it's equally valuable to equip students with problem-solving skills. Tailoring my approach to each student's learning style and interests allows for deeper understanding. Additionally, creating a supportive…

It is crucial an english tutor creates a comfortable space for students to ask questions and express concerns. This is because tutors must understand their students problems and thus solve them. Tutors must also maintain a student's confidence as this can enhance their attitude towards studying and therefore drive the importance of school and hard…

A tutor or at least a teacher is someone who can give students a helping hand, perhaps a friend is too informal but someone they can relate to. I think being able to understand your student and what makes them improve or how they can improve is also essential as an english tutor and a teacher. It is useless to spoon feed facts and knowledge to a…

To me, an english tutor is someone that can not only prepare a student in the classroom but to prepare them for life. It is essential for tutors to be supportive and create a safe, welcoming space where students feel comfortable making mistakes and learning from them. Local Reviews

Sam’s been great for my Sam and after over a year of other tutoring which Sam hated, I can’t recall one time when Sam has not wanted to do his tutoring with Sam. As a result Sam’s far more engaged with Maths and has moved up a group at school for next year! Thank you for Sam’s persistence and flexibility on making learning fun and exciting for my Sam!

Inside LoftusTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 5 revision with Ella focused on double-digit multiplication and strategies for dividing larger numbers.

In Year 8, Lucas worked through index laws and simplified algebraic expressions using equations to find unknowns.

For Year 9, Sam tackled expanding and factorising algebraic brackets along with practising negative indices, applying these skills in progressively challenging questions.

Recent Challenges

A Year 8 student sometimes avoided harder problem-solving questions in maths, especially with multi-step subtraction and decimals, leading to confusion about when numbers should increase or decrease.

"She liked to skip some of the questions and got distracted at times," noted one tutor.

In Year 10, a student working on financial mathematics struggled to write out her steps, often losing confidence when combining multiple operations—her answers suffered whenever she tried to work problems out in her head.

In another session, missing a required workbook meant time was lost sourcing material rather than focusing on new concepts.

Recent Achievements

One Loftus tutor recently noticed Sophie, a Year 10 student, now confidently expands and factorises algebraic expressions—last term she would hesitate or skip these questions, but this week she wrote out every step neatly without prompting.

Charlotte in Year 8 has started breaking down complex worded problems herself, identifying key information before diving in—a real shift from when she relied on the tutor to interpret questions for her.

Meanwhile, in primary school sessions, one student who previously guessed at subtraction tasks now checks their working independently and corrects mistakes before moving on.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Engadine Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Loftus Public School.
