What do I enjoy most about tutoring? 😁

What I enjoy most about tutoring is when a student who has been struggling with a concept slowly but surely gets it, and the shift in confidence is a really rewarding feeling. I also enjoy the relationships that a teacher builds with a student through one-on-one interaction, making for personal and effective teaching. My main goal is to help students who come in thinking they’re not great at a particular subject, and helping them realise that their thinking is not necessarily true.

My Strengths as Tutor πŸ’ͺ

My main strengths as a tutor is patience and adaptability. Every student learns differently, so I attempt to explain concepts in multiple ways rather than just repeating the same explanation louder. I am also good at diagnosing problems when a student is struggling with a topic because of a gap in earlier material, and I try to be encouraging without being condescending, thus increasing their work ethic as their engagement rises.

Most important things I can do for a student πŸ…

The most important thing a tutor can do for a student is to build confidence, as most academic struggles are due to an issue in confidence. A tutor who helps a student believe they can improve is more than just teaching content, and teaching them how to learn, how to break down problems, how to ask good questions, which then culminates into building their confidence in learning. Thus, I believe that building confidence and engagement as a tutor is essentially the best action a teacher can do for struggling students.
