What do I enjoy most about tutoring? 😁
What I enjoy most about tutoring is making a difference in the lives of my students and helping them feel more confident in themselves/ their abilities. I truly believe, from lived experience, that academic outcomes have little to do with innate ability and are more heavily shaped by mindset and self-belief paired with the right evidence-backed study strategies.
My Strengths as Tutor 💪
As a tutor, I believe my biggest strength is my ability to pair both my academic expertise with my background in psychology. As a psychology graduate, I recognise that learning is as much about employing the right study techniques as it is about being emotionally engaged, motivated and resilient. As such, I aim to both incorporate evidence-based study techniques (that I personally used throughout university to consistently achieve High Distinctions), while helping students feel emotionally grounded and regulated through the challenges of the learning process!
Most important things I can do for a student 🏅
I believe one of the most important things a tutor can do for a student is to lead the session with empathy, patience and kindness. I know what it feels like to be the student that is trying their best but can't seem to grasp a concept and so when I notice that in others, I can recognise when its time to pause, reflect and reframe the situation such that the student doesn't internalise their mistakes. This, I believe, is what allows students to look at their mistakes with clarity and actually learn from them.
