What do I enjoy most about tutoring? 😁
I enjoy teaching students and testing my own knowledge by explaining a concept in different ways. I like interacting with people and explaining concepts to them through diagrams and analogies.
My Strengths as Tutor 💪
I take my time when I am teaching and don't rush through topics. I also use analogies frequently when explaining in order to better teach a concept, having a broad knowledge on various topics facilitates this. I can think outside the box which helps when I teach. I am also a people-person and create a comfortable learning environment which allows people to ask as many questions as they want. These are the strengths I've noticed when tutoring at UQ and informally tutoring my friends. Further strengths and characteristics which are transferrable are noted in my resume.
Most important things I can do for a student 🏅
Creating a comfortable environment in which the student can ask any questions without fear of judgement. There's many tutors that I've gone through myself who don't do this and it became a difficult environment to learn in.
Actually teach concepts. This especially applies to maths. Most maths tutors sit there and watch the student work through questions for the entire session. I believe that it's important for a tutor to teach a concept, have the student do a few questions, and then further explore that concept.
Supporting the student and believing in them. Makes a huge difference.
