What do I enjoy most about tutoring? 😁
The things that I enjoy most about tutoring is the mutual opportunity it presents for me and the respective student to holistically improve something about themselves. I myself, tutored throughout my schooling as it is the best way I learn. I would never describe myself as inherently smart, but rather I've improved from a low achieving student by consistently practising and working with a range of tutors; ultimately understanding and developing the essential qualities of a good tutor. In turn, I appreciated student-tutor relationships' ability to incite improvement beyond pure academics.
My Strengths as Tutor 💪
My strengths defiantly arise from my not-so-old weaknesses. With English as my second-language, arriving in Australia I could not communicate, at all. Subsequently, I was not ready for the challenges that Senior-School English posed. As a result, I was inherently stuck with a very low ability for and had to work to develop my excellence in the subject. Having been a student first I've developed interpersonal skills and that helped me and subsequently my students excel. I also derive confidence in students by explaining how I achieved 50% in my first Eng assessment and a final mark of 91%!
Most important things I can do for a student 🏅
The most important things that a tutor can do for a student undoubtedly derives from being blatantly honest with your student(s). A lot of students - me included - seem to get down on themselves when a tutor is harsh or rips apart an essay that was perceived as excellent by the student. Although understandable, your job is a tutor IS to be as harsh as possible to incite improvement within your student . I had my essays brutally roasted by tutor (PHD in literature) and hated him for it - until I realised how his blatant honesty is helping me strive for improvement!
