What do I enjoy most about tutoring? 😁
Embarrassingly, my favourite aspect of tutoring Is how well I understand the material after teaching it. I find it really satisfying to understand material well and to impart this knowledge onto someone else.
I also enjoy the mechanisms of teaching, I like to think about science/math and tutoring is a really awesome way to think out loud and have that information actually go somewhere. It's a win win :)
My Strengths as Tutor 💪
While I wouldn't admit this too often, I think my biggest strength as a tutor is that I'm not very clever. I had to figure out ways to teach myself complicated concepts and to recall information at rates that were difficult to me. Going through this process, struggling with it, and ultimately being rather successful in my studies, means that I understand what it is like to struggle with material and I have a plethora of strategies to impart into students to help them master it.
Most important things I can do for a student 🏅
I think the most important think a tutor can do for a student is to give them confidence in their own abilities. Schooling, especially ones centred around standardised exams, encourage students to master themselves in order to achieve standardised tasks; however, no part of the curriculum teaches them how to do this. I feel as though it is the role of the tutor to help the student understand how they master material, how they learn, and how they think; and then to teach those students how to apply their personalised take to academic endeavours.
