What do I enjoy most about tutoring? π
The act of listening and hearing is enjoyable as a tutor. Listening to a student explain their thought process of how they understand a certain concept helps them to improve their knowledge and skills. I am also able to better assess students by seeing how well they work with given material. Rather than constantly speaking or lecturing myself, allowing students to speak for themselves empowers them to be heard. As a piano tutor, I made sure to actively listen to studentsβ thoughts about music pieces and how they would go about playing them and subsequently responded to their needs.
My Strengths as Tutor πͺ
I consistently see potential in people. Even when it may not be immediately visible to others, I am confident in allowing students to see the potential they have and the good they can do in any aspect of life. When tutoring younger children, they often have not been able to develop a sense of confidence or a strong belief system compared to older students. I make sure to offer reassurance when working with these students, allowing them to see the best in themselves.
Most important things I can do for a student π
Developing rapport with students is one of the most important aspects of tutoring. In doing so, I form mutually beneficial relationships with students and their parents, thus establishing a more engaging and professional tutoring experience for everyone. It is rewarding to inform parents of how well their children are progressing in their academics and if not, parents will be able to communicate with their children and come back the next lesson with new goals in mind.
