Be encouraging - Student's won't understand something straight away and this can be a source of discouragement for them. The last thing they need is a tutor who refuses to acknowledge this. Constantly encouraing the student will help them realise it will only be a matter of time until they nail a concept. Be a friend - The idea of a tutor is to be a friend as much as a teacher, by doing both you bridge a gap between mentor and mentee.
