What do I enjoy most about tutoring? 😁
Given I value education, I believe tutoring is a worthy pursuit.
I am fascinated by how students learn. I enjoy the art of tailoring lessons to suit the student and his or her circumstances.
I enjoy seeing students improve. So, when a student who believes that they are no good at maths or that maths just is not them, later says they can do it, as a tutor this is immensely rewarding.
As a tutor, I enjoy developing my skills. An example of this is the 150 pages of maths study notes that I have developed over the past five years for years 10 to 12.
My Strengths as Tutor 💪
Having struggled at secondary school (achieved well at university), I relate well to students on their level, instead of being a talking textbook.
I have tutored more than 70 students in mathematics, from a diverse range of backgrounds, this means I appreciate the challenges students face with mathematics.
I am patient and understanding, which helps students develop their own approach, ask questions and learn from their mistakes.
Knowing I can make a valuable contribution to students' learning, I treat this responsibility seriously.
Most important things I can do for a student 🏅
Although helping a student overcome subject-specific challenges is important, it is critically important that a tutor
> provides a supportive learning environment, which allows the student to experiment and ask questions, without fear of judgment or criticism.
> helps the student develop confidence, which may be lacking in the subject the student is being tutored in
> is a positive role model and someone whom the student trusts and respects
> creates enthusiasm within the tutoring sessions, which can transfer to the student, making studying easier
